oh and johns (which is the opposite of everything on this list)

But seriously there are no crap colleges, you will have a great time wherever you go, a lot of supervisions and all lectures are organised on a departmental level, you will get first year accomodation and probably for all three years, money if you are strapped for cash, welfare services. After that its reeally rather subjective

I often see people referring to "loser" or lesser colleges on here.

Can someone just give me a brief rundown on what constitutes a crap college?
This depends entirely on opinion. Go to Cambridge and walk around and look at as many colleges you can. The ones you hate are the rubbish ones .

I believe so.
Because we'd rather be at Oxford...
Oh I see he's a fully fledged Cambridge forum member...carry on then!

"Small" seems to work for most people (the uninformed)- that's why Mansfield is seen by the outside world as perhaps less than Merton.

History is also a big part of it. No one in my family has ever heard of my college, because of its lack of overwhelmingly famous alumni, which is something a college like Balliol or Univ doesn't have.

In short, people who think that one Oxford college (I know next-to-nothing about Cambridge) is better than another (in reality- we all have our little inter-college rivalries) doesn't know what they're talking about.

Any college that isn't your own, basically

It applies to Johs's Oxford too  , I'd rather be at Cambridge/Anglia Polytechnic :p: .

I've never heard that version at Oxford though, only "I'd rather be a leper than a Tab" to the same tune. college variants i guess.

I think I've seen it mentioned on here maybe, but never heard it, I've never heard the leper thing either, I obviously haven't been to enough rugby matches :p: . But yeah, the leper thing is a pretty obvious choice  .

Casey just trying to stir for the sake of it  everyone LOVES john's Oxford!
I've heard "rather be at Cambridge than at John's", though leper/Tab is more frequent.

I think some of the poorer colleges do have it worse than most. Pembroke (Ox) springs to mind.

Teddy Hall is obviously superlative...

Seriously though, all Oxford colleges are wonderful except St. Hilda's and St. Catz.

Churchill at Cambridge looks like a comprehensive school, and Fitzwilliam is only marginally better.

Obviously. That went without saying.

One of my best mates got pooled, and then was given an offer by Churchill...

They aren't rubbish though, you still need to be clever to get in and also they fill very specific functions which are extremely important to certain people.
