Applied to Bristol for History - heard nothing at all!

Hey - applied to Bristol last December for history, and have heard nothing. No letter, nor a decision from Ucas - though I did get an "acknowledgement" of my application via email back in mid-December. I've taken to assuming I'm not going to get in, seeing as pretty much everyone seems to have heard from there, and a lot of offers have come in this January! Can anyone shed an honest light on the situation?!?

Considering you only submitted your application about four working weeks ago, I wouldn't be too surprised you haven't got a decision. They'll be particularly busy at this time of year with the late surge of applications, especially to popular courses like the one you've applied for.

Chill mate chill - i didn't get my offer until February last year. The fact that you've waited for such along time means nothing other than they have a lot of applicants.

You'll find out one way or the other in good time, nothing you can o can speed it up. Just be pragmatic, helps you to stop worrying.

February? Phew, there is hope yet! I guess I should be patient given that it hasn't been long...but they DID send me their acknowledgement ages ago, so they must have viewed it at least in part - who knows?! I'll wait with the masses :-)

Cool well done people. History at Bristol is by far and away the best uni course you can do. Believe me you'll understand when you get here

Reply 11

Yeah especially compared to an ABB offer. May I ask what educational background you come from?

Way too high? Bristol history is the most competitive history course in the country. Standards are high.

Try applying for English... :p:

You won't get less than an AAB offer until you're well outside the top 20 or so universities. And if you want Oxbridge, UCL, Bristol, Durham, York, Exeter etc it'll always be AAA.

Apparently:
English, History and Law at Bristol are ALL in the top 10 most oversubsribed courses in the country. There can often be up to 80 applicants per place.

According to the admissions tutor I spoke to on the open day.

As popular as these courses are, I find the concept of 80 applications per place a bit hard to believe- that would mean over 8000 applicants to each course! It would make selection almost impossible (when you consider everyone has AAA/AABs)- admissions tutors are often known to exaggerate when it comes to these figures.

It is true. Bristol history had 10,000 applicants last year. KCL have 10,000 each year too.

English this year was so oversubscribed they admitted double the number they wanted.

Their online prospectus says there were 1,771 applicants to history.
