I'm on it. I had a constant period for a year and my appetite has increased but it's worth it once your body settles down with it. It doesn't hurt at all! Don't worry! If you want to know anymore then pm me

It doesn't hurt.. They do it just above your bum.

I wouldn't recommend it if you'd be ok going on the pill..

I had dreadful side effects but everyones different.. It can make you moody, put on weight, spotty, depressed, lower your sex drive etc..

It screws up your periods too - could make you have a 3wk period then you'll be off for a few days then back on again.. or they could disappear completely -which could be considered a bad thing if you had a niggling worry that you could be pregnant coz you wouldnt know..

Some people are absolutley fine on it though but if you do get any of the side effects then you've got them for the whole 12wks!

Bleeding everyday for about a year. It's not harmful, just a nuiscance.

Can i ask how old you are wholly? And what the reason is for you wanting to go on the contraceptive injection? Why not the pill?
I've been on it since august 2004, with no real problems. My periods were different for the first few months (at the usual time in the month, but lasted for about 11-12 days) but then disappeared, which is no problem for me. It is different for everyone and theres no easy way of knowing what effect it will have on you, but it's worth a try. I haven't had any change in appetite, sex drive, spots or weight.
It doesn't hurt very much - I find it easier than arm injections as I don't worry about flinching as you can't see when it's about to go in.

i've been weighing up the pros and cons all weekend.

and i am hopeless at remembering things which is why maybe the jab is a better option on that side of things.

it was just a consideration instead of the pill.

The bleeding has disappered now. It's nice not having to take a pill everyday or anything (I have a mind like a sieve and would forget to take it!) and it really really doesn't hurt! I couldn't go on the pill because my Aunty had a DVT and because heart problems are hereditary in my family. I also couldn't have a coil because that made my other aunty infertile so the jab was the best option.

Talk to your doctor that would be the best thing to do..

At the minute theyre being very wary of giving the injection to girls under 19 because you're still growing bone (i dont understand it all properly) and theres a possible association of the injection to osteoporosis in later life.. but unless anyone in your family has suffered with this i dont think its anything major to worry about..

They warned me about the possibility of a link between the jab and a higher risk of developing osteoperosis but they didn't worry about my age. I've been on it since I was 16 and my friend since she was 15

Clairey87 - did you not suffer from bad mood swings since you've been on it?

Because i was absolutely fine for the first two injections then suddenly i got worse and worse with every single injection.. If it wasnt for the moods i probably would have stayed on it.. but every1 begged me to come off it lol
i was on it for a year. it made me want to eat loads and i was basically suicidal while on it(maybe life problems too) . I didnt really get a period just spotting.
I've been off it 5months now, and i'd never get it again. ever since being off it i've felt a million times better and it's been much easier to loose weight.

I went through a period where I could be absolutely on top of the world for 10mins and as quick as a flash it'd change into a really unhappy mood. I can get like that sometimes but it's not as often as it was. I've found that I'm more tearful than usual though. Luckily my boyfriend is very understanding!

I never found that i put on weight whilst on the injection - i actually lost weight being on it.. i found i could eat whatever i wanted n not put on a pound! Unfortunately the weight dropped off the boobs too lol.

See I'm not gifted in the breast department anyway! It's hard to decide whether or not I had put on a little weight as a result of the injection or glandular fever. I've lost the weight now because I'm doing loads of walking at uni but I do find it hard to keep it off! I honestly don't feel any pain when I'm given the injection but I feel bruised for a few days afterwards.
Just wondeirng does every single contraception methods for female makes you put on weight as a side effect? Because that is the main reason which puts me off from it

Some of them increase your appetite which is why you put on weight. My Dr said I could avoid the weight gain by eating fruit etc when I was hungry in between meals
Reply 18
I've been having it for abou a year, and it's great. No weight gain, it hurt a bit but not too much, and my periods have virtually stopped!

Sorry to go off the subject but the last time I had my injection, I asked the university nurse if I could have some free condoms. Her reply was that I had to go to reception and ask for them (in front of everyone in the waiting room). Surely she could have walked the 5 meters to the reception and got them for me?
