The Uni told me a load of stuff about you the other day as well.

Did you have to write such a horrible thread? Other people do like it here. (I don't, but that is not the point). It is reputable for arts, design, music courses, and is a very good education college.

I honestly do not like the sound of this uni.

It's in a bad area, has little reputation, the courses suck, too many mature students and accomadation is not guaranteed

was it really necessary to start a thread here, knowing full well that you're going to offend people with your comments?
you clearly have an attitude problem, sort it out before you start uni or you may have more than a little trouble making friends.
(oh but i do agree with you about one thing, i too am hopeful that you don't get accepted here. have a nice day  )

Why is the square thing next to my name red? :frown:
I actually read that back and it does seem really offensive, I didn't mean it to sound that way when I wrote it late last night.

What I am trying to say is, I hope I get my predicted grades to get into the uni of my choice because I want to get the best out of my experience.
I already go to a school where I feel I did not get that high school experience and I finally feel that I get a second chance to achieve the best I can achieve and get something worthwhile out of it.

However I feel this uni is going to let me down because, it's not in a very good area, I won't be able to bond with people my age (too many mature students) and the uni has little or no reputation for my course.

I got the sense that the uni is not worth it considering I am going to pay a lot of money and may not be guaranteed accommodation, which really angers me.

For £3000 I expect to get a good experience and I feel I am going to get cheated.

I didn't mean to insult the current students who I feel are being cheated as well. I was criticising the uni not the calibre of students.

I hate the red gem :frown: :frown:

I agree it was a horrible post (I put it into context in my last post), but there is a lot of truth to it.

The Psychology course isn't rubbish/unreputable. It is very scientific and has great new facilities (postgrad only though). It has visiting academics from across the country to give you lectures on what they specialise in, including those from america, and unis such as Cambridge, UCL and the like. You get the chance to participate in lots of experiments, this actually goes towards your degree, so you have to take part in experiments. The lecturers are great and will always help you if you are stuck on something. Umm... So if you don't get your first choice, the course here is great!

Thanks
I am just really nervous because my universities are still deciding
whether to give me a place. But to be honest I don't feel like psychology is for me. I loved it at AS/A2 but I want to try my hand at something different. I am more interested in Law I've had enough of science.
I am a retaker hence why it is so important to get a place for law. I can't/dont want to, reapply again next year.

I don't care if you criticize my "callibre", nor am I interested in your views of the area. I didn't find your posts offensive, and I didn't come here through clearing - it was my first choice. However, for the sake of people with a brain cell, please at least keep discussion of the university constructive.

P.S - Goldsmith's has a fantastic reputation for my course, as well as the other arts.

I never stated that you entered through clearing and that is not relevant to my point. I think people should express their true opinion of the university especially their concerns and I believe that this is a constructive way of doing so.

However I think my original post could've been worded better it does raise a lot of valid questions. How is the overall reputation of the university?

To thoses who are current students do you feel you get value for the money you are paying?

Same question applies to former and prospective students

could any psychology students here fill me in on their opinions? i've applied this year but seem to hear nothing but bad things! what's the actual course itself like?

Did you not read what i wrote above about the course? What else would you like to know apart from that?

Reply 13

yeh i did, but i'd just like to know students honest opinions of life in their first year at goldsmiths, in particular, psychology students. Do you get value for money do you feel?

Not for £3000 no, but that we don't have to pay that (well i will next year when i start again). But if it is the best uni you have applied to, then yes. It depends. The teaching is highly rated, and i just lost my favourite lab lecturer to UCL (he moved uni's), so that says how good they are. Whilst you are here you will read many of the lecturers books, whether you want to or not, they are usually high on the list of books to read. You get an essay every other week (1500 words) and a lab every other week (opposite week - up to 4000 words i guess, depending on what you want to write). So it is a lot of reading, but that is okay as you don't have that many lectures. You get marks back every week, which is really helpful to show your progress. My tutor is hopeless, but you may get a good one, who will help you. The library is improving, is now opening until midnight, but is still not 24/7 like many places in London.

It is a lot of science, and maths. If you hate statistics, you have a lecture every week on it, and every other week the lab report includes them. But there is a helpful piece of software called SPSS to do the statistics for you. But that means there is a computer lab every other week also, to teach you how to use this package. Which is okay, but is sometimes a pain to go to if you are a very quick learner of computer software.

Anyway. Anything else?

Thanks ladydeborah for your honest opinion. Xavier I've applied to do the same course as you and like I said I don't think it's for me. Paying £3000 for a course that is not worth it, kinda worries me.

Am I the only one who considers the constant mentioning of Goldsmiths to be a "rough area" ever so slightly racist?

Reply 17

no your not... can you tell me more about the politics department, the lecturers and the assessment?

How is calling somwhere a "rough area" racist? Since when has the reputation of an area had anything to do with race? I don't know about you but I call somewhere we're there is a very high risk of being attacked/ mugged "rough" regardless of race. Not calling somewhere a rough area when it is is just because you're involving race is more of an issue.
