the campus that food science is on at nottingham is beautiful. quite small but really lovely scenry wise.

quite quiet at weekends though :frown:.

i'd imagine Leeds would be quite the opposite.
Nottingham every time, it not only has a much better rep (which u need when doing such a course) but is also a great place to study.

The food science course at Nottingham is at the Sutton Bonington campus (unless they are changing it now the vet school will be out there.) You will get *very* mixed opinons on this campus!! Some people love it and others, probably the majority, hate it. It is about 12 miles from University park and is very isolated. There is a hopper bus between the two campus, which is the uni say is very frequent, it isn't!! They are about every hour ish, but thery are sometimes full and you will have to wait another hour. If you live on campus there are no buses at all on bank holidays, and they are very irregular at weekends. There is a very small shop on campus, no cash machines, a bar and small cafe thing. The nearest small shop is kegworth (30min walk) or loughborough/nottingham for supermarkets.

I havn't found the facilities to be very good at this campus (for lectures etc.) Because it is small, and there aren't many people there, they put all the first years together for nearly all the lectures. Which means you have a huge range of courses doing the same module. You have people doing food science and nutrition courses with agriculture and animal science people and plant science etc. I am doing ANIMAL science and had to do modules about food (for humans,) going crop plants etc. Similary people doing food sci, plant sci etc had to do modules on animals.

The univeristy park campus is lovely, but don't go to nottingham for that reason, you really need to try and research SB abit!! It looks like a nice campus, and is some of the time, but as I said, it is very isolated. A taxi back from UP to SB will cost you about £20 or more if you are coming from the centre of Notts, so it doesn't make for a cheap night out!!

I don't know leeds at all, so I can't comment on that, but it is worth comparing the two.

 dont worry about it.

But as the post below says its on Sutton Bonnington which is a different campus, however to mix with mainly people from your hall and you can still spend time on main campus. Also when traveling into nottingham town at night, all your friends will be in the same situation and you can easily share a taxi which wont cost as much. Also your there to get a degree so you should look which is a better uni. PM Finnstar whos also doing this course at notts and staying on SB.
I have a friend who has all her lectures at Sutton Bonington, but she lives on Uni Park. She has to get up in the morning more often than me, but she says it's worth it.

hey...
thanks for your comments a lot..
i got a letter from the uni today..with maps..and i was a bit disappointed when i saw how far is the SB from the UP..i really hate being isolated so i hope there will be a chance to live closer to the city ..i would rather get up early in the morning..
however, i was very happy to read a nice letter from the admissions tutor.it made me think that i would enjoy studying there:smile:)
one more thing...i don't feel like going to the open days..well..my question may sound silly, but still..do you think that those who attend open days may have more chance to enter the uni(my offer is conditional)?
one more thanks for being so helpful

If you have an conditional offer, then it'll be the grades they want....

No you don't have more chance, but you really should go. The experience is invaluable. It would really help you pick between Nottingham and Leeds, they're very different universities and you need to get a feel for where you would prefer to be. I think it's silly not to go to be honest. xx
No if you cant be bothered dont, i only went to see one uni and didnt even see uni park, once your here its whatever u make of it. Plus if you dont go to open days they wont even notice.
