Help, i'm homeless!!!

Me and my boyfriend have been living at my parents house for two years now. we are completly in love and get on really well. But my mother is determined to hate him and progressively she has been making our lives at home worse and worse. And she wants to split us up.
She is rude and bitchy to my boyfriend and says nasty things to him whenever i go out of the room. it got him really down and it did with me too.
Lately she has got much worse, giving us a bed time! we are both 19 (well i nearly am!) and she tries to force us to bed early. she monitors everything we do and wont leave us to do anything without interfering. She says we are only allowed a bath once a week and has hiden all the bath towels, so we keep having to buy new all the time and try to hid them so she doesnt take them away again.
If one of us is on the pc and we go out of the room, say to the toilet or to get a quick drink or something, she will turn the pc off, losing anythign we have on it.
She opens our letters. She is rude and has no respect for us. In fact she even went as far as lookng in the bin in the toilet to make sure i am on my period each month so she knows i am not pregnant!
It is making me and Bryan (my b/f) really miserable and stopping us from relaxing or being able to study, and we are always paranoid she is listening in on our conversations.

Last week she had a big argument with bryan and told him she wants him out of the house, so i said that if she wants him out then ill have to go too, and she said fine. she wont budge on it and so we had to resort to staying on the streets. since then we ahve stayed at bryans nannas and at my nannas, and tomorrow i am going to ask at work if we could stay there some times.

But i am really starting to worry. i have 8 months till i go to uni and nowhere to go permemantly. how can i study when i am lugging all my things to and fro?! It also putting pressur eon me and bryan, we are sticking together and i am sure it will make us stronegr but still it isn't nice. We both need to study hard to get into uni and we need some stability.

She has taken all that away from us and i don't know what to do anymore.

A tutor suggested declaring myself as homeless, but would the council offer me anywhere when i am off to london in 8 months?
What can i do?

Please help me, i am really alone and worried and i dont want to sleep on the streets again.

Jo

I know a boy who was in that exact situation and he ended up staying at his best friend's house for a year. Don't u have any friends who would do that for you? If you've got a job u could even pay them rent-good practise 4 uni.

How much do you want? [Do you accept cheques?]

We really dont have the money. we are both full time at college, and only earn 70 pounds a week each. We have to save for uni because my parents are not helping us out at all, so suddenly i have been left with this big mountain of stuff i need to buy...TV, TV liscence, books, sheets, quilt, Digi box, Laptop........its so scary. i thought my mum and dad were going to pay for the TV liscence and DIgibox and pay towards the laptop, that was the agreement, as they dont want to help me out financially so they said theyd buy me those things. they wont now tho :frown:

We don't really ahve anyone. Most of my friends are either at uni themselves, or live in rented accommodation with only one room.
I am going to go into work tomorow on my dinner break from college and ask if me and bry could stay there as we both work there, for a few nights a week, i will tell them ill help out more or something. I am putting all my hopes ont hat.

My family cant really help me, i only have my rents, my grandmother and father (who dont have any room) and my uncle. but i think he is worried that if he takes us in it will cause arguments with my mother. See my family are a bit petty and always fall out. they are so unstable and volitile!

If you're homeless how on earth do you have access to a computer?

If your situation is that bad, people that care about you will take you even if they don't have room because they won't want to see you on the street. Don't worry.

speak to your council - if you're homeless they have to house you as an emergency.................the place you get might not be nice but its better than nothing.........
get in touch with your local council and see if they can give you any better advice on what to do

Can't your boyfriend move out until you both go to uni? ( he had a grandmother you said) Or at least until you both finish college so you can find a full time job in summer and get a flat? Your mum is behaving in a nasty way, but I suppose you cant make her support your boyfriend as well as you. It'd make sense to go back to live with your parents for a few months, I'm sure your relationship with your boyfriend wont suffer too much for that period of time not living together. You'd have to endure your mother for the sake of your education (unless she's being very cruel to you, which you didnt mention)

Oh, and dont worry about tv licenses and digibox stuff, if you come to Kings there'd be much more fun things to do than watch tv.

You don't necessarily need a TV/licence at uni. I know plenty of people that survive without (including myself). That's £200 ish less to start with.

You haven't mentionned much about your b/f's family, is there anybody there you could stay with?

..TV, TV liscence, books, sheets, quilt, Digi box, Laptop......

lol oh come on.... these are hardly necessities! If you had said .... food, alcohol and fabreeze then i might have had an ounce of sympathy for you! talk to your rents.... what about your bf's parents? where are they in all of this?

Hey, sorry to hear about your situation, sounds horrible. but for a start, you don't really need a TV or a Digi box. Especially when you go to uni, I can assure you you won't have any time for watching TV! there'll be too much other fun stuff (and occasional work...) to get on with, rather being sat in your room with the TV missing out! Also when I was in halls we could buy all the necessary bed linen from the hall itself really cheaply and then had to return it at the end of the year. You should check whether there's something similar where you'll be going (assuming you'll be in halls). Most unis I think also have hardship funds etc and you'll get more student loan/possiblly get fees paid for by your LEA if you're having to support yourself. SOrry none of this is advice for your situation now tho!

His nanna can put him up but not often, which what i think she will do. she lives in rented accommodation so has to be very careful she doesnt get reported for having visitors!
So he will stay there as often as he can, but we are still left with nights where we'd have nowhere to go.
I cant live in this house on my own with my mother. in a way i wish i could endure it, but its becoming like a prison to me, and when bryan is not there, her bitchyness moves to me.
I suppose with the things to buy for uni i could endure not having a tv for a while. tho i think i will have to get me a laptop, i think i am too addicted to messenger and wikipedia!!!

Thanks for your advice

I thought about that hardship fund. Do you have to pay back the money they give you or is it just like some extra financial support?

your right food of course, luckily i dont drink or smoke or take drugs or anythign like that! and fabreeze, is that still going, wow, i've not seen it in the shops for years!! suppose ive just never thought to look!
My boyfriedn doesnt have any parents. well he has a dad, but his dad is a violent alcoholic who kicked bryan out when he was 16. That's why he ended up livign with me in the first place cos he was on the streets and my mother said she couldn't bear the thought of it. Funny how her mind has changed though!!!

if you can afford to buy yourself a laptop, i cant imagine you'd qualify for a hardship fund...

I can't afford a laptop atm, i am saving up nearly everything i earn at work each week, which isnt that much, so hopefully when i go to uni i will be able to pay the accommodation off and pay fro my travel crd straight away, and get a cheap laptop, not that any of them are cheap! but i am hopng to have 6 grand by the time i go to uni, which will just about cover that. then i can use my loan and bursary to buy food and other necessities.
Reply 18
It can depend with hardship funds. At my uni you can either get a loan (which therefore needs to be repayed) or there are also bursaries (which I think u don't have to repay). I don't really know much more about them than that or exactly how they work, and obviously its also going to differ between unis. Don't think you can get them straight away either and I've heard that there's a huge application process to go through as well with an interview. (but that is just my uni)
