Dress comfortably.. but whats wrong with looking "Over-Keen"? If anything I would have thought thats a good thing :-/

As for the specific geology information.. no idea.. haven't spotted any imperial geologists on TSR - there could be one lurking somewhere though.

they'll give you an offer if they invite you. I wore a suit and I suggest you do. It's a good department but also kind of relaxed. Be prepared if you come here for snidey comments about your subject and a complete disregard for your love of it; people will assume you're doing it because you didn't make the cut for mech eng or something. Don't worry about this, as a general rule the people in the department are good people and you'll enjoy yourself. Feel free to PM me about any specifics.

Cheers for the reply - I don't get that attitude, they say they will ask for AAB-ABB so its not as if its majorly easy (especially when I need to pull my biology up from 174 :\)

(+ you can just retort with the fact that in a few years you may well be working for shell, for only 2 weeks of each month for 70k/year) I've spoken to a couple of people with similiar arangements to this, who absolutely love their jobs.

yeah, Imperial is the place for that if that's what you want. The geology involved doesn't seem to interest people as much as some stuff though. If ever an example of something is given it is given in an oil context. I wasn't asked anything technical, we just talked about meteorites a bit.

No thats materials :p:

(you gotta love the IC banter....)
I had an interview there on the 23rd of november. it's nothing to worry about. just read over your personal statement, thats all i got asked about, and sound enthusiastic. they'll ask you if you have any questions at the end, so have a couple in mind to make you sound keen on the course.

i don't do A level geology, which might be why they didn't ask me anything geology related, but they didn't ask me about Physics, Maths or German (my A level courses) either. just relax. the departement staff are all really nice which makes you feel comfortable anyway. i even feel asleep in one of the talks they were giving us (8hr trip, long story!!) and i still got an offer of ABB for Geology with a Year Abroad. Good Luck!

Hey I'm a second year geologist and I help on the admissions day so I'll probably be giving you a tour of the campus.

The interview is merely to gauge your enthusiam and whether you'd fit in, and whether you'd like London. Official policy has changed so you will not be told that you have got an offer on the day, wait 2 days or so and it should come in the post. My interview was a chat about my Dad and the professors wife...long story! Just remember to be enthusiasic, ask any questions you want, and be yourself.

Any questions at all and just email the department, they're very friendly and like it when you're enthusiastic!

Dresscode: Doesn't matter, smart casual...not that really means anything!!

Any random questions, give me a PM.

Do they ask anything about the content of the subject?

Grave-digging some threads isn't the best idea mate since it's alot different now.
Now a days, they'll ask you specific questions related to the University and the Course.

For example I was asked:
1 - "Why Imperial?"
2 - "Describe any Geologic Formation you can think of"
3 - "Can you clarify this (part) in your personal statement to me?"
4 - "Describe the differences between these two examples" (Rocks usually)
5 - "Do you do any extra curicular activites?"

To name a few.
They usually ask a set number of questions, mine were 7; enough to talk for 25-30min. Btw it's imperative you have questions to ask the interviewer or else you'll look like a hopeless tourist.

Good luck.
