Split ends and frazzled hair

My hair is really damaged in places, and it's going to need to be cut off. It's at the front round my face, where I straightened it most. If I cut off the damaged parts it'll be quite short. If I leave it to grow then cut if off, will the damage travel up the hair?

Basically my question is: should I cut the damaged parts off asap or leave it to grow, then cut it off?

Any tips on making hair grow faster would be appreciated... thanks
Ooooh I had this problem a few months ago. I was however, totally unaware of the 'frazzled pieces'. I abused my hair by overusing my straighteners & the ends of my hair were basically burnt to a crisp. My hairdresser told me that the only thing to do was to chop off the ends. It improves the healthiness of your hair. No one wants burnt frazzled hair afterall. I would say go & have the ends trimmed to get rid of the burnt bits then invest in some GHD heat protection spray (it is so good! It has stopped me getting burnt ends altogether!!) & ease off on the straightening.

that stuff makes my hair sooo greasy...but i think its cause i've got really straight hair!
If I were you, I'd go to a hairdresser as they'll be able to give you a great cut that will leave your hair free of split ends. There's just no guarantees if you do it yourself.
If you don't cut them off then that can happen a bit - like undoing a zip!

Can I cut the dead bits off myself do you think? Am tempted by something called a "split-ender" which cuts off the bottom 1/8 inch of your hair.

I have something like that (good ol QVC). It's ok, but you can't beat a good haircut. Purge those split ends I say.
