Your best bet is to get a job as an office junior in a barrister's or solicitor's office by telling them you don't want to go to uni and you're interested in a career as an administrator. Otherwise, you're looking at work shadowing placements.
On my gap year I worked from Sep-Xmas 4 days a week at a shop, and every Friday I went to a local law firm for free work experience. After Xmas I worked full-time at the law firm as a legal clerk until August

Your best bet is to work in a small firm (1-3 partners) nnd be willing to do anything (i.e. not just legal stuff but boring administrative work). If you're useful they might give you some sort of employment... but don't expect it right away. It's tough enough to just get legal work experience let alone be paid! I was lucky.

I'm on a gap year and have applied for office junior positions at about 15 solicitors near me and only two of them responded- that was to say thanks but they have no current vacancies :hmmm: I probably could try harder and contact more firms but it does take a lot of time and effort. Also I didn't feel comfortable with telling that I dont plan to go to uni as I'm a bad liar! I'm leaving for south east asia in 3 months so The chances of me being accepted by a firm to work for such a short period are very limited. I've got a part time job at a theatre at the moment and it's not enough money to fund my trip but my parents have agreed to help me with money. I'm looking for another part time job prob in a shop or restaurant but haven't had much luck.. It's worth trying for a legal job though, just remember not to be discouraged if things go slowly.

There is a firm which has a scheme for gap year students but they only offer it in their Birmingham and Leeds offices so if you're willing to travle an hour and 20mins to Birmingham then contact Pinsent Masons. I'm not so sure I want to and I'm not that sure they'll want me seeing as I'm going to do a History and Politics degree!!!!

Does anyone know any prestige(er) job titles that a gapper could take at law firms or soliciters that doesn't just include photocopying? Also is anyone aware of any international placements in America, Australia etc? Cheers
I want to take a gap year in a law firm too to help raise money so i can go do my degree! Please give us some help!!!
So when you're applying to be an office junior, what do you do? Send them a letter saying are there any vacancies for an office junior? That sounds so silly but anyway.
Ring up the companies to ask to see if there are any vacancies for an office junior and if there is a post, send them your CV and a covering letter.

If you apply through www.yini.org.uk there is a chance to work in Clifford Chance and there's probably some other firms as well.
