Whats the University of Gloucestershire Like ?

Out of the six universities I chose it seems like I'm most likely going to choose Gloucestershire University to study at. They've already sent me a conditional offer and I believe I'll pass it easily.

However I have worries. I've heard that it's pretty dull and that it has a "very bad" teaching record with some subjects (hopefully not with English Literature because that's what I've chosen). Another worry of mine is that it's predominately middle-class, and I wonder how a working class scouser will fit in (I've only ever left Liverpool once and that was on a family holiday to Disney Land Paris when I was eight). And my biggest worry is that I wont be able to find a part time job which will be vital for me during my studies.

I'm hoping someone will come along and tell me there is nothing to worry about and that I'll get on just fine, but I would really appreciate honest opinions. What's Gloucestershire University like ?.

ive heard its a good uni, my sister went there but she didnt do the same sort of course your doing, the place is also pretty good, lots of nightlife. and dont worry about fitting in the place is not just full of rich kids. Also if your stayin in cheltenham the place has lots of places you can get a job so dont worry.

I'll be going there this year. I live in a town nearby and know the area very well. The nightlife is good, especially Cheltenham. I went to City university (London), last year and hated it, so I am hoping this year will be better!

People are always saying Cheltenham is full of snobby people, but it is not true at all! Honestly! You will fit in fine, don't worry. I'm always up for a beer....lol.

Anything else you want to know..?

hey i live in cheltenham - and its a brilliant town - even though i am slightly biased as i have lived here all my life!
It has really good nightlife - holds record for the most pubs in one square mile or something.
Like every town, it has its fair share of ups and downs. There are really really nice parts of chelt with lovely buildings, etc but there are also quite run down parts on the outskirts. Shops are really good and the people here are generally nice but there are a few snobs as it is quite a middle class area, so i can understand why chelt can have that reputation sometimes! Dont worry about not being able to find a job - ive got 3 jobs at the moment and im only doing by a levels! there are plenty of jobs going and theres a job centre in cheltenham town too.
Never been to glos uni actually but i know a few mature students that are doing part time degrees there and they really love the people on their course.
Don't worry about it, you'll have a great time living in cheltenham! xx

My sister went to a University in Gloucestershire and now lives in Cheltnham. She's says it's supposed to be a good area and I have visited it. Cheltnham seems like the better option for shopping though.

Cheltenham is one of my fave places, the bars, clubs n shops are all wicked. there r some really nice classy parts and it is also very studentville too. Moda and Fez are great student clubs. Essence and Blush are nice too. Great bars. 21 club is cool and the vodka bar. jobs at chelt race course available a lot. very friendly town and easy links to get to Bristol, Cardiff, B.ham, Oxford and London by bus or train. I lived near chelt for work and had a great social time in chelt. i miss living there. Montpellier is a lovely part with trendy bars etc.

The university has good and bad points. The bad points are inherited mainly from the fact that its a young university, in that it is still trying to get its head around certain organisational things which to some old universities may seem like issues of clumsiness. Also, for the fact that it is a young uni, certain league table tests have not been conducted yet, so for these tests the uni has been given a 0. Which means that the real league standing of the uni should be about 20 places up.

It is recieving some generous funding. Its Business School has a very good reputation for postgraduates and this will continue for IT/Comp/IS/ICT as the uni is applying to become part of the Oracle Academic Initiative.

I've been looking for some threads about Gloucestershire, so i'm glad i've found one!

I have applied here, and have accepted it as my first choice and when I visited here I loved it. I think i'm in the same boat as you, as I live in Kent and it's far from my normal surroundings!

So maybe see you about possibly!
