I have an interview at Leeds uni on Tuesday and I've been asked to take a short essay with me as a discussion point. I have no idea what to expect though. Are these kind of interviews generally informal or are they they type that make you want to escape from the room as soon as possible? And is it likely to be just one person interviewing me, or more.. ?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!

From the sounds of it...by taking an essay as a discussion point...it's going to be a formal interview...unless they've specifically said it won't be in your letter.

Depending on uni and subject...it can be one or more interviewers...be if there are two...be prepared for 'good cop bad cop' from them.

Whatever happens, don't get 'flustered' or angry or raise your voice....just explain your point of view calmly and rationally. Make sure you take all the time you need to think before answering....and don't try and blag a subject you know nothing about...just ask to move onto another subject.

    Good luck....you'll do great!

What subject are you applying for and what does the essay have to be about? I agree gzftan it does sound quite formal. When I went to Leeds I had three intervews, though that was for dentistry so its likely to be very different.
