Do it in excel first, then just copy/paste.

Or use pencil to do it, after printing it out.

Hmmm, you'd just have to use lower case L or pipe (|) as tally marks.

As for the cross bars, I haven't got a clue.

Yes. I was referring to this (|||||) as some sort of tally system. Maybe use a frequency table instead.
