I'm a first Year IB student and recently just started (late, I know). I chose the Math Studies level and I've only had the class a few times so far but it seems really simple, things I did in 8th grade or so.
I was wondering how hard Math SL was? I am a pretty good math student but I'm worried that it will be a lot more challenging since I didn't take the IGCSE and I followed the American Curriculum which uses AP and SAT's.
So in a sentence: on a level of 1-5, how challenging is math sl and how many of you are taking it and what are you thoughts on the course so far?

I'm a first year student too an taking Maths Studies
Stick with studies, depending on how difficult and challenging your other subjects are. Studies will give you an easy 7 points whilst you get to focus on getting the highest mark possible in the subjects that matter for your career.
That's my logic anyway lol
If you did AP maths you seem pretty good and Maths Methods (SL) should be a difficulty rating of 2/5 for you... I reckon

I am not the most talented of mathematicians however and I do find aspects of the course difficult but manageable. If you are confident that you are good at maths then I think maths SL should be no problem at all.
Also it depends on what course you want to study at uni....for something like medicine maths SL would definitely be the right subject to choose however if your more interested in the humanities like history or geography then I would personally stick with maths studies

Maths SL isnt quite as hard as people think it is, it just takes a while to get used to the question, though if you do studies you may get a 7 and instead get a 6 if you do standard- it depends if you think youre going to need a higher mark to get into uni
