Coursework aim: To calculate the lost energy in stretching an elastic band

I am writing up my coursework on this topic, if anyone has done it i could do with a little help.

I have drawn a force:extension graph and the area between stretches is used to work out energy lost. ( the elastic band stretches when more weight is added)
I am now writing up the conclusion, evaluation etc.
Why does the elastic band lose elastic energy?
    Is the answer simply heat?

Rubber is an elastomer (a class of long-chain polymers), and can therefore be stretched to very large strains without breaking. Energy is lost when work is done on rubber (even prior to its elastic limit) due to the generation of internal energy (hysteresis loss) in the rubber which is then radiated as thermal energy to the surroundings.

Lmao. This is coursework? Sorry if i come across as arrogant but wow, finding lost energy in an elastic band for coursework is just insane.

How very interesting... They're spoiling you with giving you such and interesting and fun experiment to conduct. I'm so jealous.
