Guys I need support. Don't know what to do with all this foolish waiting... :/
I had my interview at Robinson college for History and:
the general went pretty good
the specific was quite tough. i don't know how to grade myself they really tried to give me a hard time so i have no idea what was the outcome
and the 45 minute essay was great.
I got my prediction for the IB which is 44
7 History, 7 Economics, 6 Mathematics
7 Language, 7 English Lit, 7 Biology
I have Step 1 with 1. I have load of extra curricular, great personal statement, saq etc.
Help me out here. Thoughts....?

She lived in milton keynes (was just in Iraq visiting for a couple of weeks then fell ill) so while I only got to see her 3-4 times a year we were close. She always believed in me and stuck up for me when anyone else in the family would try to argue with me for anything. Even when my entire family (well except my brother) both extended and immediate called me crazy and irresponsible for deciding to do maths over medicine (and throwing away a chance to be successful) she told them all to shut up and that no matter what I do I'll be successful  Sorry I'm just rambling now...

Thanks though, to everyone, all such great people and I hope I do get to meet every one of you in Cambridge. We shall see.

That was very forward- thinking of her- it really makes me angry when people don't understand the benefits of studying something because you love it and think that there is only a select number of career paths that lead to success. I got a lot of "what are you doing??" for wanting to study languages because it's not very well respected where I'm from  But what's wrong with studying something you're very passionate about? I know so many people that were pressured into studying top subjects that they don't really like and now I just feel sorry for them. I also think it's very hard to excel at something you don't love.

Your grandmother sounds like a fantastic woman :yep: Whenever I think about my granny I feel so proud- she went to university (!) and I have this really cool photo of her with other students having a smoke and wearing some pretty interesting- looking trousers () when almost no women were doing that sort of thing. I never feel like she's really gone because I can remember her and do her justice when I tell people about her  I'm sure it will be the exact same with your grandmother, she sounds awesome :h:

Yeah, I have to say, part of what draws me to Cambridge is the people- everyone I've met from there has been so interesting and so nice  Fingers crossed for all of us, it's so close now!

Totally agree,

I know deep down that you probably have the same level of conversation at UCL/warwick etccccc
But I feel like Cambridge would be the most lovely in that respect.

To be fair, they take everything into account as it's just not one thing they look for

I read somewhere on this thread that someone last year got an offer from a college that wasn't their preference - and they got the offer on the same day as all the first offers came through. They were not told they were pooled.

This does make sense, because on the Cambridge timeline it says that this year the pooling actually begins on the 3rd - but can someone verify that this can happen? Or if you have an opinion or idea about this, please share

Thanks!

I swear I remember reading about a girl who got 45

and she was 1 of 72 in the world to get it, that is insane!

A lot of people smarter and harder working than me at my school didn't get it.

I know! And the fact that everyone in this thread is so nice too makes me want to go there even more.

What would be your second choice?

I managed to motivate myself to revise today. I told myself that it won't matter if I get a Cambridge offer or not if I don't do well enough in my exams to meet it.

That's the same with me for Maths. I'd prefer to study the Warwick course, but then I'd prefer to be in London. But then London's super expensive. Decisions, decisions! Maybe I should stop being so negative and consider if I actually DO get an offer from Cambridge

9 in IELTS is also insane. I did it during the summer, and got 8.5 overall, but 7 in Writing. I have no idea why, nor does my English teacher, because I've never really had a problem with essays. It's subjcetive, and you basically have no idea who corrects and grades it (and how). (I got 9 in Reading and Listening, where you can at least know that only if you have 0-1 mistakes can you get a 9. But Writing...)

Do we know whether this person actually met the offer in the end?

Judging by his post history he's now at Edinburgh, so he did pretty well anyway. Must be terribly frustrating to get such a ridiculously difficult offer. Am made slightly nervous by the fact that I am also applying to Peterhouse and I wouldn't be surprised if, should I did get an offer, it'd be a difficult one since I'd probably be a borderline case...

Well clearly Cambridge saw something in him/her.

On some intellectual level I can appreciate that Nottingham is a good university and that I probably wouldn't have a bad time there, but I just find myself totally unable to get excited about it. Cambridge is basically the only university I would be entirely happy going to. It's kind of awkward too because people assume Notts is my 2nd choice when in fact it's my 4th...

Durham didn't tell me. They rejected me on the 14th (school's UCAS co-ordinator convinced that it is because the universities 'talk to each other' and Cambridge told them they planned on giving me an offer - I'd love that to be the case but it sounds a bit absurd) and promised that they would at some point give feedback to all candidates - I'm presuming it's either because my GCSEs are a bit rubbish (two A*s...) or because I didn't talk very much about extra-curricular activities, which, I gather, are in fact something that Durham are rather keen on.

I heard about the Durham thing as well. Apparently people in my school who applied to Oxbridge tended to get rejected by Durham outright as even though they might not actually talk to one another (too much of a conspiracy theory I would have thought) they can tell just by looking at the date that you submitted your application, your grades etc.

I think it's supposed to be the 5th but I live on the Isle of Man so it could be a day later, depending on how effective the post service feels like being

I don't know. I find it unlikely that Durham would reject an applicant for being too good. I think what is really the case is that people don't realise Durham are looking for extra-curricular as well as curricular information in personal statements. Since your average Oxbridge applicant will be keeping that kind of thing to a minimum in their PS, I suspect that that might be what is behind so many extremely good (or otherwise) applicants being rejected by Durham. They're just looking for different things.
