for the past few months ive only been eating one meal a day (either a bowl of pasta or cheese on toast) and recently ive started to feel really sick and people have started saying im losing weight.
is there a chance this is the beginning of an eating disorder and should i talk to some1 about it?

eating disorders generally have a psychological root. if its just something physical, then no need to panick on that side (which doesnt mean you might not have something else - if it continues go see a doctor).
i suggest you visit www.facetheissue.com and read a few threads by people who do have eating disorders and see if you relate.

sounds like what I would already call an eating disorder

btw this isnt the 1st time ive been in this position and it's mainly down to people saying to me that they think i need to lose weight and people saying im a fat cow etc

What is your reasoning for only having a meal a day? Is it what people have being saying about your weight? Because what you've said you eat does not seem enough at all, and if you're concerned about your weight, it could lead to (or already maybe from) an eating disorder. Get help from your GP and possibly organise a more healthy eating regime with them, and try not to let what other people say to you get to you. I hope you're okay.

the reason i only eat the 1 meal a day is cos im worried about putting on weight and that my parents are around in the evening so i have no choice if they were at work in the evening then i would even eat the 1 meal aday!
i have spoken to a teacher in college and she was kinda shocked and didnt say much so that didnt help :frown:

im kind ok at the moment just feelin abit sick

i did this and it did develop into an eating disorder- try and address it before it develops any further - its not a healthy way to lose weight and ended up taking over my life! all the best, good luck. xx

i will try and pluck up the courage to talk to some1 this week even if it is just a friend..............

Healthy food won't make you fat. Cheese on toast probably isn't the best thing to eat to lose weight. You are probably feeling sick due to lack of energy and generally being over hungry.
Suggest eating some fruit and nuts and trying to get back into the regime of eating little and often and going to the gym.

I just don't get why people can't be happy with who they are? It's who you are not what you look like.
If you do think you are overweight, why do it the hard way by putting yourself through the trauma of depriving yourself of energy and nutrients? It would be so much easier and better to go to the gym and run for 15 mins - that's 150+ calories burnt already. Do some weights, tone yourself up - that's another few 100 calories. Then Cycle for 10 mins - another 100+ calories. Already you have burnt off your whole days calories if you eat healthily.
Decent cereals, fruit and nuts won't put weight on you. They won't fulfil you as a meal but as snacks through the day they are brilliant.
You will feel better, look better and your body will be in better shape. The you can physcially run away from the people who get a buzz out of being nasty. Or you can throw one at them :P

It may be the start of an ed, but as people have already said, it depends on the mental side of things. eating just one meal a day is really unhealthy, and will not do you any good at all. try eating fruit and veg, and meat such as chicken.
try something like this:
breakfast - cereal (i usually go for special k or fitness), or a fruit smoothie, or fresh fruit and natural yoghurt.
midmorning - piece of fruit
lunch - roast veg. wrap or a salad with chicken, bacon or fish, with a low cal dressing.
midafternoon - piece of fruit.
dinner - veg stir fry, you can add chicken if you like or roast veg pasta, or fishcakes with salad, or corn on the cob with boiled baby potatoes and veg or salad or a jaket potato filled with anything you like with some salad or veg, or any sort of fish with veg and potatoes.
early evening - cereal bar.

i find these meals are good because they fill you up, but they are healthy as well, so youre getting pretty much all the things that you need.

i think i did mention in post #4 that it was partly down to people saying i needed to lose weight and also people saying i was a fat cow n stuff

Be happy with yourself. Does it matter what other people think?

Hmm you might feel **** becasue of your resticted diet. I know i crave crabs alot when i restrict. If you only want to loose a few lbs then ok. But if your wanting to loose masses of weight and be a stupidly low weight then... but maybe. I think when someone adopts weird eating habbits and is constantly thinking of food and loosing weight etc. it's not normal behaviour.

first ask yourself why you are eating one meal aday if it's because you dont want to gain weight or because you want to lose weight and you feel guilty if you eat then it's an ed if not then it might be because you forget to eat or your simply not in the mood

Yes, but the average female is supposed to eat 2000 clories a day, and the average male 2500. It'd be one hard gym session to burn off that much! But I agree with eating healthy balanced meals and exercising. If you lose weight too quickly, you won't be as toned and shapely as if you'd lost weight gradually with exercise to keep you trim. And starving yourself will only slow down your metabolism, so if you do start eating normally again, it's more likely to go on as fat. I suggest slowly working your way back to a normal eating plan, with plenty of regular (not necessarily taxing - you could you go for a hlaf an hour walk everyday) exercise to keep you in shape.

you don't actully need to burn 2500 calories, what about the 1300 calories burned by basel metabolism another 300 to 600 by your daily activities and another 500 at the gym you do the math, pretty much more than what you've eaten, plus it varies for different masses and if it's a female or a male somepeople even burn more some less

i think ED depends on your outlook in your mind. if you are in a rush - coursework deadlines, too much work, too upset over bf problems or too poor to afford more than 1 meal a day, then you probably dont have an ED as weight loss is ancilliary to the main purpose.

however if you obsess over how little you eat in order to look thin then this is an ED as the main focus of the though process is foods

i dono - i think you should talk to a doc before it gets worse.
if you are overweight according to BMI, 1 meal a day isnt going to help you lose it - you just burn up muscle. go to the gym an d eat REGULARLY
