Hockey at University

Hi Ive wanted to start playing hockey for ages...but never really had the opportunity..I was just wondering whether university hockey clubs allow you to start from scratch? Im good at racquet sports and so have an eye for a ball if that makes sense and so should be able to pick it up. If anyone knows about Liverpool men's or mixed hockey teams that would be cool as well - as Im considering going there.

They can't stop you from joining a sports team, you just might not make the first team until you've been in training for a while. My housemate is in the womens rugby team, she never played rugby before uni, though was interested as her brother plays rugby, so joined. She's now in the first team and has played for some time in each match (never usually gets to play the whole match though).

No at UEA. But i'm sure you'll be able to join at Liverpool, there should be a page for the sports teams on the website somewhere.

Nearly all uni teams that i have come accross encourage beginners, usually at large unis there is a split between senior squad for experienced members and junior squad for new ones or recreational.

Loads of people take up rowing at Uni for the first time, as it is a sport that not every town facilitates well, and otherthan that loadsa private school people do it
