And I get to see England being booted out of the World Cup by a goal from Trinidad and Tobago's Benjamin Scotland! w00t!!!

I wish Sidney's wasn't red and blue... I support Celtic! My dad wasn't best pleased when he found that one out lol. Yay, exams are over! Now to get drunk and not feel guilty *cheeser* I don't know what to do with myself now that I don't have any studying to do!

ha ha girton's is green orange and white, my dad decided girton was a "good college" after i told him that  .

woo hooo mes examens sont fini!! my life has actually been studying for like the last two/three months now so goodness knows what ill do. ah but to go to bed at night knowing an alarm isnt going to wake u up at nine to start biology...is this bliss? i think so.

good luck to all u englishers with ur exams!! and rpotter, we all know fine well ur dying to be a scot secretly.

re books: william boyd- i love him, his books r great, read him!
I have to second that. Go luck to all you English folk!
Christ's. scarf. is. brown. :wtf?:
I can work with that... um,
**noooni**
I was in waterstones today and picked up like five books, but had to painfully let them go. After exams.....
I want to read McEwans 'Saturday' because i hated the only book i read by him, and want to see why everyone loves him.
Margaret Atwood's The Edible woman.
George Orwell's A clergyman's Daughter
The five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom
And The Time travellers wife, because so many people on the lit forum have recommended it.
I cant wait until exams are over...

Don't read 'Saturday', it's not him at his best, unless you enjoy long, detailed descriptions of neurosurgery. I recommend 'Atonement' instead. 'Amsterdam' is also supposed to be very good, but I've not read it myself.

And I shall third it! Bonne chance!

rpotter
You just have to be different!

Oh and yer the Downing scarf is quite easily the best scarf.

Indeed, here's a man who knows what he's talking about!

Oh dear, is this like his long detailed (pretentious) exploration into philosophy of truth and science in Enduring love? Because I hated that, I hated it with passion.

I’ll try 'Atonement' then; I just want to see what the fuss with McEwan is all about.

Ooooh have you read Any Human Heart? That's the only one of his I've read but I love it so much, it's probably one of my favourite books.

Yep good luck to all the Englishers from me too! You'll kick le ass, obviously.

Edit: oh and Noooni definitely start with Atonement, it's by far my favourite of his (and I'm obviously right), I cried buckets. I went bookshopping today with my school prize book tokens, and found an F. Scott Fitzgerald collection of stories I didn't even know existed... score. *love F. Scott Fitzgerald*

I bought this book last summer and never read it, i started with the first page and got a bit bored so left it 'for later' and read another book. Thats the first time i've heard anyone mention it, might read it then
any human heart is next on my list lucy! my favourite is the blue afternoon:love: its probably my favourite ever book. (it involves doctors as well! doubly appropriate!) his style is very gabriel garcia marquez in it. im reading an ice cream war just now which is good too. (oh i went bookshopping today as well...i love books )

We can steer it back to science...
So imaginary numbers...arnt they cool? You might do better steering it back..

Ebay is wunnerfull. Although I have a tendency to go into bookshops and come out wondering why I have less money than before and a heavy bag under my arm.

And imaginary numbers are very cool.

I buy from amazon, as you can get brand new books from members for half price!

I dont do further maths, and dont know anything about them, something about j and square root of -1? ...sounds cool though:rolleyes:
Woot exam talk's dying down :p: yeah imaginary numbers rocked...they were the last topic we studied for the As, and so the freshest in my mind.

I don't like marcquez :frown: Going book shopping today! At kinokuniya in town...wonder if you guys have one in england...it's a GARGANTUOS japanese bookshop. Has almost any book you can think of.

Its 'i' actually  :p:

And they do rock! Mmmmmm complex number calculus....
I'm sorry, but imaginary numbers are the most stupid thing ever.

"Ok guys, remember everything that we've taught you in maths up to this point? Yeah, ok, I'm going to need you to forget that now, because those rules are somewhat inconvenient to the next topic"

Imaginary numbers were my clear signal that it was time to leave maths for good...
Yeah. Imaginary number rock! My friend came up with a theory.

If you used imaginary numbers in the measurement of mass, would have an imaginary mass and therefore be able to travel at faster than the speed of light.

Yes I know that doesn't make sense, probably due to the fact that it's the only half of the story I remember. If you think that's bad, wait until you hear my other friend's theory about winning wars easily.

Yeah, marketplace is pretty cool too, and not as popular as ebay so you can sometimes get better deals.

Quite the opposite. And the wonderful thing about imaginary numbers is that they are an extension rather than a replacement of the normal maths - bringing imaginary numbers on to the scene doesn't change anything you've learned about dealing with real numbers. You can go on saying that negative numbers don't have roots, and thats fine - you're just dealing with real numbers only, which are a subset of complex numbers, and everything you know about them is valid for them. Just not for all complex numbers.

'Imaginary numbers' is a really stupid name though. They're no more imaginary than irrational numbers (although thats another stupid name, as they're by no means irrational) or negative numbers themselves.
