Yeh, but I thought it was better to decide it that way than a goal in extra time.

I don't know. I prefer football games to be won by football

I meant for this particular game.
I didn't watch the match... was positive france would win though.

As for what school, i went to a state school/language college, where they get to select some of their students. My year was a 50/50 split. We have two careers advisors that help us with UCAS forms etc. but they are pretty useless and i didn't use them, school also runs an oxbridge workshop, but i didn't go because i wasn't going to apply.

Are most people like the only ones in their year to go, or is it almost common for people from your schools to get in?

Like at our place there were 14 of us this year in the end i think, once the pool was sorted. Last year they got in 23 but that was the most ever...

Me too! Only I got an offer this year. If I miss it then this year will be the first that no one has gone to oxbridge in a long time(, if ever).

Everyone kept telling me that all the private schools really pushed Oxbridge and gave them loads of interview practice and stuff to help them get in. Whereas at my school, a few who considered themselves good enough applied, and I was convinced by the Head of Sixth as I was a little unwilling to even apply there(!). Otherwise I never would have considered it.

I had two practice interviews, one was with the Head of History and the other with someone's parent and the latter of the two was barely focused on History at all as the guy was an English grad. I am not sure how much my school really pushes Oxbridge, I think they advise some to apply and some not to though I am not really sure, I was determined to apply already so if they were pushing people I probably didn't notice.
vets and medics had practice interviews, i was offered one, but i again i was so unfussed about getting in i didn't bother!

I had two practice general interviews (both unofficial and with same teacher).
anyone know why the Boure Indenty is on twice on ITV2 tonight
Reply 3912
i'm watching equilibrium on 4.

it's a bit depressing. distopia is it called when it's the opposite of a lovely cuddly place?
Its not on twice...its the bourne identity followed by the Bourne supremacy i think?! Could very likely be wrong...

Got 23 into a oxbridge in a year??? wow...this year we had a poor turnout, and the opposite of usual, 1 (hopefully) into cambridge, and 5 oxford, usually its far more, and into cambridge not ox. hmmm...as for mock interviews, i had one with the master of Churchill (well he's leaving now), he's so so lovely, would love to accomplish everything he has!! We did a discussion of lots of current affairs and random subjects that ranged from what i guess a Natsci would be asked, to that of a prospective theologian... great fun though!!
Oxbridge is...rather unremarkable at our school, actually  Although my (and friendlyneutron's, obviously) year had an unusally high ratio of successful applicants, which the school didn't mind boasting about at our end-of-term prizegiving ceremony, which made me feel well-chuffed
We had 17 apply this year, and 12 get offers (three through the pool), though I know at least one is turning down their offer...

Throughout fifth year, and early sixth, anyone considering an Oxbridge application was called to several meetings with our Head of the Careers Department, who gave us the CAFs etc., and arranged for us to go to one of the Oxbridge info days they hold around the country. (Though all the school did regarding the Open Day was tell us when it was)
I didn't really feel it was particularly "pushed", but I suppose that might come under the definition..?
At the start of sixth year we (law/med/vet med/oxbridge) were all told to ask a teacher to be a kind of mentor-y person for sixth year, and they were the ones who gave us practice interviews...but only if we asked for them, we weren't particularly pushed (only told such interviews would be a Very Good Idea  )
(And yes, 'twas a private school)

Has anyone seen Pirates of The Carribean 2 yet? Do you know if it's watchable without having seen the first one..?
(I have seen the first one, I have the dvd, but a friend hasn't...)
it is the same movie twice, i dunno why i'm watching it again, esp since i have it on video!

Oh well just changed the channel although there aint much on. Should go to bed i suppose.

Need a drink

Also the year that got 23 into oxbridge also got 100% pass rate at A-level, a first at our school!

Yeah. I saw it on Friday without having seen the first one. Would probably be OK as a standalone film. My friends said that some of the characters were in the first one, but I don't think you need to know their history.
we had 20 apply, five offers and four got in (3 Cambridge, 1 Oxford). Which is kind of a record for our school. On the other hand, we're an international school, so a lot of people apply for the US or Canada etc. In fact, one of my friends has a sports scholarship to Harvard:eek:

geez you guys are all scaring me, what kind of schools do you go to?! My school's proud if say one gets in to oxbridge, and it is an international school, guess its a pretty crap one then. 5 people applied this year (4 cam 1 ox) and even that was a record, and only I got in. Then again out school doesnt really push anyone at all, you really have to push yourself, which is a good lesson to learn in the long run but it sure doesnt help the percentage that pass the final year.. 88% passed IB.

So is pirates as good as the first one?

I know one of my friends holding a place for Cambridge (music) got in and one of the (economics) missed his offer by one point. But I don't know what points they did get...

Yes, I am wondering though. Where are all the other IBers?
