Okay, I used to be on TSR and then kind of forgot about it...this is me...friendlyneutron, I go to school with you, btw. This is bizarre
College applied to: Emma (am I the only one on here?)
Course: SPS - planning to specialise in American politics. I was going to apply for English but changed my mind the week before I sent the form down.
Conditions: AAA
Deferred entry? nope. I am going for the compressing-a-gap-year-into-the-summer plan though.
Nationality: British (it's the easy way to think of it...). Used to live in the States though.
Where are you living right now: miserable Glasgow
A few details about yourself:
Love music, reading, films, TV...etc. Huge West Wing and Alias fan (some might call me obsessive and stalkery... ). I have an addictive personality so anything I like I tend to love in terms of music Aimee Mann and lots of other people related to her. I write a lot, since I'm kind of artistically temperamental or something. And, of course, read the news lots and lots.

How did I celebrate? Well, it was New Year. So I went to my friend's house and drank a lot of champagne...

Ah, indeed you do! Not content with taking over Cambridge, our school seems to be taking over TSR too

i thought the second final dest was quite funny but this one was just a slow progression of death with a lot of blood and guts thrown in. there was also a couple of twelve year olds sitting in front of us who kept asking us if any of "you lassies" wanted to sit with them. eh naw.

hello person who lives in the same city i do! its funny because i never ever ever used to see anyone from ur school but yesterday i saw two folk in the same place at the same time.

I agree! Saw it last night and spent the last ten minutes of the film crying  Stupidly I went with my friend who likes fast-paced action movies with lots of snappy dialogue, so she wasn't too impressed with B.M... It's definitely one of the most beautiful films I've seen though.

Oh and we had annoying people in the cinema too - a guy with a red mohican that was about a foot high who spent the entire film snogging some girl in the back row... What was the point in paying £4 for a ticket??

OK those parts could just be describing me :p: YAY a West Wing fan  They're so few and far between round here... Did you hear about John Spencer? :frown:

oooh...me too, me too, me too (West Wing fan that is:wink: ). Trying to convince my parents to finish watching season four fast so we can get season five on DVD.

I heard about John Spencer...so sad.:frown: And the stopped the show altogether now, too - actually, don't really see how they could have continued for too much longer anyway, given that presidents can only be elected twice. Still...:bawling:

I'm absolutely awful when it comes to horror movies. I have nightmares SO easily. The only kind of horror movies I can take are vampire movies, cos I don't find vampires scary at all--I've read far too many 'nice' vampire stories that I sympathise with them far too much. I remember one of my friends saying 'omg, Interview with a Vampire is so scary!' and I just thought 'Lestat ROCKS'.

My mum watched Dirty Dancing 2 the other day and she said it was crap. This made me re-evaluate my original opinions, and I think maybe it was crap, but I didn't notice. I'm really very bad in some respects. Stick a guy dancing on a screen and I'll just go 'ooooh' and ignore the crapness. I'm the target audience of every himbo actor. Ack! My thumb just clicked *in pain*. I love dancing though. I watched Strictly Come Dancing like a madwoman. And I ADORE Patrick Swayze. Was going to watch 'Ghost' tonight but both televisions are hogged. I saw 'Save the Last Dance' as well, but I didn't like that at all (although it's probably a 'better' movie than DD2--maybe I was a bit mesmerised by Diego Luna's accent. Plus there's the Diego Luna+Gael Bernal factor. Mustn't ignore the Gael Garcia Bernal factor. HOTNESS. I love Latin boys.)

I'm going to watch Brokeback Mountain soon... but I'm worried about being underwhelmed. Generally, I don't like Ang Lee--I find him a DEADLY boring director. I'm going to expect it to be utterly amazing... and I'll be so disappointed if it isn't.

Oh yeah, I'm really looking forward to this book called 'Don't Look Down' by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer. Jenny Crusie did her dissertation (I think it's still unfinished actually) on the different ways in which men and women write, and this is sort of this put into practice. Bob Mayer went to West Point (Sandhurst for Americans) and did all sorts of Special Forces and Green Beret army stuff for loadsa years, and became a writer halfway through. He writes action thriller sorts of things. Jennifer Crusie writes contemporary romantic comedy. Basically, in this book there are 2 protagonists--the male protagonist's POV is written by Mayer, and all the female POV is written by Jenny Crusie. I've read the first 20 pages or so and it looks like it's going to be HILARIOUS. Anything written by Crusie is hiarious. Full stop. Plus, it's really, really, really obvious that the guy stuff is written by a guy. The change in style, the change in 'voice' is SO clear. It's really interesting stuff.

Plus, they write interesting blogs. Both write about being writers a lot, so unless you're interested in writing, it might make no sense whatsoever, but I've written a lot of fiction, so I've gone through a lot of the processes they talk about--albeit with a lot less pressure. Plus, Mayer and Crusie write in totally different ways. Mayer being the hard graft writing-a-20,000-word-intro-five-time-a-week type, and Crusie being the 'let's make a collage of the characters!' type (and doing very little writing).

That's a sort of peek inside kind of thing.

i dont like horror films either :-( im such a wimp tho cos im not a great fan of the dark *is embarassed* and after ive seen a horror film i usually sleep wth the light on. ha ha, im such a looooser. but i was ok after f.d. 3 because its not so much a horror film as just a load of pants and i kept my eyes closed during the bits where naked chicks were being burned to death and the suchlike. :-)
Reply 389
ditto about horror films...although I can't sleep with the light on. My technique is to go to sleep holding onto a book... - my friend's think I'm nuts, but it does help. As long as it's not a scary book!...

I used to keep about 6/7 books ON my bed, next to my pillow. My friends thought that was SO funny. It's just because I'm a serious book-loveage person.

Now, I like to think 'my vampires are going to SAVE me, so there, evil horror dude'. Yeah, I'm delusional like that. Fangs ROCK.

My book pile is on top of my CD player which is next to my bed...unfortunately, it's a wee bit precarious and the top book keeps falling off. My room really is too small.

I love vampire stories, but I must admit that they manage to scare me too. I took Interview with a Vampire to Greece with me two years ago and had to leave it in the bathroom of my hotel room every night when I was trying to sleep...I think this is the point when it becomes apparent that I really do take books too seriously.

Currently there are about 15 books of various flavours spread across my bedroom floor. Along with the packaging that the last few came in. My mum was not amused.

yay! None of my friends watch it :frown: & only one of my friends watches Frasier... but almost everyone seems to watch the OC and Desperate Housewives, or Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here :hmmm: no offence to people who like these programmes but I hate them! :p:

Anyway! hehe I know the feeling! We have all of them - luckily my mum's an addict too - I can't believe season 7 will be the last :frown: :frown: True but yeah it still sucks... Have you seen series 5 & 6 yet? If not you're in for a big treat

I had an Anne Rice obsession a few years ago. I wasn't scared at all by the vampires in Anne Rice. I got depressed thinking that they didn't exist! My favourite kinds of books are historical romances and paranormal romances. I like my non-humans. Vampires, werewolves, faeries, mutants.. yippee.

Here's my current reading pile:

On there I have:
2 vamp-fics-- 1 anthology called 'Bite', 1 which is part of a series. Read both, but they're funny so I like to re-read bits.
2 Georgette Heyers--'Devil's Cub' and 'The Grand Sophy'. Half-way through TGS, and just started Devil's Cub
3 non-fiction books on the Regency-- one is an encyclopaedia on Heyer's Regency (with pictures!!), a biography of Beau Brummell, and an autobiography of the most famous courtesan of the time (Harriette Wilson). Biog and autobiog are both v. funny. All currently reading.
1 science book--okay, sorta-sciencey. it's called 'survival of the prettiest'. it's v. good actually. Currently reading
1 contemporary romantic suspense--Nora Roberts. Already read. It's so-so. Not as good as many of her other books (I've read around 30 books by Nora)
11 historical romances--I've read 5 of them. Started 1 of the others.

Ooh, just realised one of the historicals is a medieval. Didn't read the blurb when I got it out of the library. Just saw it was by Teresa Medeiros and went *grab* before the woman near it saw it. TM has written vampires romance in the 19th century. v.v.v. funny!

I'm such a book ho.

Join the club  I'm just mesmerised in Dirty Dancing... & Ghost, although I find that one a bit depressing.

Btw any Woody Allen fans around??

Good to know I'm not the only one! I still do... I keep tons of books on my bed! Although to be fair it's a double which makes it easier. Actually I just have books everywhere, it basically overflows...

My books took up the most space when we moved house. It was a little embarrassing.. now they partially occupy my room, but in the conservatory, there's a bench thingy that covers about 3 m. My books are double-packed on to it. One of my ultimate dreams is to convert a loft into one big book-room. Have a proper library in the house. With everything in alphabetical order.. *sigh*. I've talked to people who've actually done this.. they're like.. practically gods to me.

im quite obssessed with books id just spend my days reading if i could. i have one book beside my bed and a crate next to that full of books (we've just moved house...i do have a real bookcase but i don't know where is it :frown: ). just now im re reading anna karenina becoz it was one of my novels for my adv higher english dissertation but ive not long finished that and just want to read it for enjoyment rather than reading it muttering "where the HECK am i gonna find a quote for the effect of adultery on sezreha?!?!" and other such manic thoughts.

the amount of books on ur desk alarms me slightly tho sassygirl :p:
