Look, you both seem really sound, but is there any chance you could take it elsewhere if you're going to bicker? That's what PMs are for.

May I suggest watching this (or some of the related videos)?

Returning to the theme of pets, a friend of mine is looking after some geckos for somebody on holiday, and while at his house today I saw one of them eat a nice, tasty cricket, and lick its lips afterwards; crickets do look ever so scrumptious don't they?

This particular friend also has a ferret which bit me. :frown:

geckos are cool, ive always wanted a rattle snake, or a giant tortoise. once my dad smuggled a scropion from mauritius, it died after a few days :frown: i was crushed!

Yep - it's a rather awesome video. It must have taken those guys so long to perfect that routine.

Club Tropicana's more expensive than it seems

Aw, I love pets! Although I seriously think my cat thinks I'm his wife.

Ah, so this is the source of our earlier conv..? Suppose he might start getting a bit jealous then if you got a few dozen more...

Aww man, I've always wanted a gecko! D'you know if they're easy/difficult to take care of?
And I've always wanted a ferret too...or maybe a mongoose...or a puffin...
hey all! have return from the far side of the globe-rwanda (eventually; bloody terrorists, damn heathrow *shakes fist*). very freckly and tired. had a lovely time though, even though the whole genocide thing was pretty difficult to deal with. still hasnt really sunk in that ive got into ye olde cambo.

we had geckos in rwanda! they were well cool! we named one fred and one lived on our curtains bless. i couldve brought one home for u duke!

well maybe...customs in nairobi were very odd. they let my mate take a SWORD on the plane. A SWORD. and yet they refused to let me take a large crucifix on as hand luggage. i mean jesus?? a sword? where in the logic??

From my very limited knowledge (I suspect wikipedia/google could provide far more help):

My friend feeds the two he's looking after every two days - he gives them both six crickets (which are kept in little transparent boxes with what I presume is cricket food) each, which he picks up using tweezers. However, the crickets do not enjoy being picked up, so are liable to jump - which makes feeding time all the more amusing.

The geckos each have their own plastic cage with newspapers laid on the bottom so their cages can be cleaned more easily, and in each cage is a small log (which I presume is fake) or two, under which the geckos can hide.

I believe a light needs to be switched on over the cages every so often, presumably to warm them up.

All in all, keeping geckos doesn't seem particularly onerous. My friend also owns a dog, so if you like I could ask him to compare the difference between how easy it is to take care of a dog, and how easy it is to take care of a gecko (I imagine you have some knowledge of taking care of a dog), from which you could work out whether or not it'd be worth getting a gecko or not.
If anyone's serious about this herpology (lizard-keeping) lark, I've got a mate in Chalfont St-Giles who's breeding his leopard geckos. Probably they'll be a lower price (and better quality) than you'd get at a non-specialist pet store

Let me know and I can find out his website address for you.

Have you seen 'Shooting Dogs'? Will totally destroy any vestige of faith you may still have left in the UN.

Hurrah, my fellow scottsy medic (of the '06 variety, loocy's '07  ) has returned! What did you get to do in rwanda? Besides sword/crucifix shopping  I know what you mean, it's really not sunk in about meeting my offer yet, eep.

Felt like being random i apoligise... the word was induced by thoughts of hunger and simplicity
That's what the Food and Drink forum is for, surely?

no, it was general chat, stop me if im wrong.
Maybe if i wrote an essay discussing the different types of bread one can toast to have the desired texture that stimulates ones respective tastebuds with maximum effect and crap like that then it would belong in that forum.
Its like saying when anyone mentions anything it should be in that respective thread.

Then this thread would be no more...
