While watching Channel 4 news just now, it appears that Pluto is no longer a planet. :frown:

Anyway; good luck everyone with the results tomorrow, especially the potential Mathmos. I myself have just had my Last Supper (Spaghetti Bolognese :p:), and have now got 'O Fortuna' and 'One Winged Angel' looped on Windows Media Player. Nice, calming pieces of music, those.

What? The draft resolution recognises twelve planets, it just puts pluto in a different category from the eight 'classical planets'.
yay, gordon ramsay is on tonight. they should teach cheffing at cam.

It's merely a pluton isn't it? It's been relegated out of the top nine.

To be fair, I wasn't listening that much - for some reason, I have greater concerns on my mind at the moment - so you're probably correct.

Yes, it'll be a pluton if the revolution passes, but thats a new type of planet - the other 8 are 'classical planets'. There are two more plutons and Ceres as well, although Ceres doesn't seem to have a category, other than 'a big planet-shaped asteroid'.

Rum 'n lemonade. Its the way forward.
What kind of rum?

What kind of rum?

Sainsbury's dark rum. Left over from my start-of-summer party. Quite decent actually.
The only rum i've tried is Bacardi, but I'm not sure if it counts. One of those drinks I can't even look at without feeling sick as I've had too much of it. That and gin. *shudder*

Oh, I agree on gin. Drank it neat on my 16th birthday, a night I don't want to remember. Luckily, I mostly don't.

And thank you.

Ah, 16. A classy age for everyone I think.

And no problem.

Oh, indeed. Its the age I started talking to people. Definitely life-changing.

Aww!

I think at 16 I made the very wise decision to dye my hair back to something resembling it's natural colour, instead of bright blonde (*cringe*) so it wasn't all bad actually.

I was just perusing wikipedia, and it says much the same. Pluto remains a planet - yay!

On to the pertinent topic for today, I feel I must say that as the time ticks away, my animosity towards those devilish STEP exams increases. I only worry about one result tomorrow - STEP III. *grumbles* stupid mistakes *grumbles*

Especially at Sidney, if the alternative prospectus is correct.
So I've heard. Never mind, next to Sainsbury's! :p:

My little brother (14) recently died his hair bright red. And by 'red' I mean 'orange'. I keep getting confused because I think of him as a little kid with short brown hair and now he's this tall adolescent with long red hair and plenty of attitude. And a dangerous addiction to heavy metal.

EDIT - and fatuous, you're lucky. I'm panicing about both STEP II and III. I know I did better in III though.

I have to get a 1 in STEP III though. :frown: Despite this pessimism, hopefully we both get what we need.

It's unfair how only potential Maths students get cursed with the dreaded STEP - personally, I'd bring it back for everyone. Imagine an English student trying to do some STEP integration.

They'd probably have as much luck as I do! I avoided integration like the plague! I'm hoping for a 1 in STEP III as well, as I'll be lucky to scrape a 2 in II. You have a 1,1 offer then? If its any consolation, they told people who went on the STEP Easter school (not me, Bingojesus) that you would be extraordinarily unlucky not to get in at some college with a 1,2 even if you had 1,1 offer.

I presume you're an English student then...

Well, I promise to take it back if you can show that

12π12πcos2θ1sinθsin2αdθ=12πsec2α\large \displaystyle\int^{\frac{1}{2} \pi}_{-\frac{1}{2} \pi} \frac{\cos^2 \theta}{1-\sin \theta \sin 2\alpha} \, \textrm{d}\theta \, = \, \frac{1}{2} \pi \sec^2 \alpha (where 0<α<14π\large 0 \, < \, \alpha \,< \, \frac{1}{4} \pi )

(excuse the poor rendering of the TeX; it doesn't seem to like squaring things. It should be cos2theta, and similarly with the sec.)

I enjoyed the STEP integration (although I royally buggered the integration question in STEP II). Yeah, I have a 1,1 offer. As for the last part - thank you very much. lol. You're hopefully going to Peterhouse aren't you? (A friend of mine applied for Maths with an open application, and was sent to Peterhouse. He, sadly, was rejected.)
I'm only scared about my further maths, and thats why I'm doing engineering and not maths.

My mum is looking at bikes and scary baskets on the internet, she says she'll order me one, I told her not yet, cos I'll need a moutain bike for sheffield, not a little road bike! 12 and a half hours
