I usually enjoy biology experiments more than chem ones, because the chem ones all seem a little monotonous (but that's mainly because we get graded on lab write ups and its easier to do a good write up on a simple lab). I remeber disecting cow eyes in 11th grade - now that was interesting. Funnily enough, I was the only one on my bench who didn't mind touching the thing...

eurrgghhh.... years ago, i had to disect a cows heart... was repulsive, so me and me mates decided to get out of it... we threw the hearts onto the ceiling and they stuck! ( pity the poor kid they fell on, they were rank...or maybe they are still there, rotting away....might go back and check!)

how anyone finds physics even remotely interesting is beyond me i'm afraid!

Well, most our Chemistry practicals seem to be made more exciting by the incompetence of our teacher, who tends to let us pour everything down the sink when we're done with it, leading to the classroom filling with HCl fumes on one occasion. She's also set fire to her labcoat more than once this year (while wearing it.)

Sassygirl: your school sounds very much like the Cambridge version of my Oxford one! (Our headmistress is quoted in a textbook on anorexia, just to give an impression of how pressured and neurotic the atmosphere is. )

You don't happen to be at Oxford High do you? Grr...:p: Headingtonian here!

 Eurgh...

We had to dissect cow hearts and sheep eyes in Year 11... my friend and I refused to do either, and as we had a drippy biology teacher she just let us go to the room next door to "read the textbook". Best lesson ever

Is there any dissection in bio natsci, i.e. in the physiology module?

We had to do heart dissection a couple of months ago - my friend and I were two of the few who actually wanted to do it, and the only two who did it without gloves!
(My stepdad has called me a ghoul ever since...)

when we dissected a pigs heart i think the whole class took part and some of us did it without gloves...they were just slowing us down:p:
I really had fun doing it - but pigs heart smells and i could smell it for weeks afterwards...

I doubt it...I don't know anyone at Oxford high (except the few lost souls that you stole :p:) and I'm not particularly sporty so you wont know me from any teams. Rather not give out my name on the internet if thats Ok.

We dissected a rat last week...that was pretty cool. They come bright yellow and vacuum packed. We had one girl throw up...she wants to be a doctor as well!

i will lobby the eng lit dept when i get there for them to give us our own waistcoats/tweed jackets with leather elbow patches( with cambridge paraphenalia if nec)/pipes etc, because we are sooo worth it!:p:
eww i dont think i can dissect a rat! I mean the pigs heart is easy because it just looked like normal meat that you cut up before cooking-- but a rat! eww and yellow as well!

All animal lovers turn away now....

the worst bit is when you have to break their legs so that you can pin them onto the board

Ok...you can turn back now

Vacuum packed rats, loll.

my only run-in with dissection was when we got like 5 sheep hearts between a class of 30 scalpal-wielding 15 yr olds...
yeah they were pretty much butchered. and not in a tidy way.

I remember dissecting a sheep's eye, and noticing the lens looked just like a contact lens. And of course, my friend (now doing medicine) held up two sheep eyes to his own eyes, classic

I don't really mind dissecting things.. although I did manage to disgust my whole biology class by making my blood-covered sheep's heart 'talk'. And stick my gloved finger through the aorta and wiggle it  .. I am yucky.

this girl had one of them on the bus once...(the sheep eye lens)
it was kinda icky the way she was flaunting it about.
