Well, well done Kismet! Although i think the 'impressed with performance' clause is a bit standard, I had exactly the same thing with either the UCL or Warwick offer letter. But yeah, not to discredit your ability!

To EamonnHF: i agree it's been hovering around my mind too to sort by subject or at least area. I always put it off as 'not enough offers listed yet, its too early'. Maybe i should get a grip and do it....

Haha, I know. I just thought that I did extremely badly in my interview, I said some very strange things I shouldn't have so I was very happy and slightly amused to see that. After I explained my interview to a friend of mine she said: "I think you're interview was a complete fiasco or a success, I'm hoping the latter but I'm not sure" The Brits always use phrases like "delighted to offer" and "look forward to welcoming you", a Finnish letter would be more like "you've got a place here, come if you want to"

I know exactly what you're trying to say! Us 'nordic' races just don't have that effluence with words, I doubt that many German unis would have phrased it quite as exquisitely as the Brits. Hehe, at least I don't think I would have.

What you say confirms the widespread idea that you can never really judge how well an interview went. Alright, for my Oxford ones I knew I wasn't up to scratch, and I was deservedly rejected, but for ESPS i thought, like you, that I didn't actually make too great an impression, and yet I got my offer.

Sorry if you may have already said this, but what's your language for ESPS? French as well, by any chance?

In any case, I'm already looking forward to September/OCtober (if i meet my grades). Looks like a really interesting and varied group of ESPS students we'll be!

I didn't really know what to think about my interview. During the interview I felt quite confident and good and enjoyed the discussion and then the interviewer said it went well. I just have a habit of overanalyzing things I've said and done and this always leads me to believe I have made a fool out of myself. Also, the guy I sat next to on the plane on my way to be interviewed did me a mock interview (apparently he had done things like that before) and he said I wasn't good enough and needed to say this and that, mention x and y and use another type of body language etc. I did nothing that he adviced me to do, so thinking of the mock interview made me a bit insecure as well  (Though now I'm happy that I sticked to my own simple and honest style instead saying all those pretentious and pseudointelligent things he adviced me to :p: )

I'll be doing German as my major language. I thought about doing it jointly with French, but I didn't want to "waste" so many course units on languages so I'll probably just try to keep up my French (and maybe Swedish too if I decide to be hard-working) at the Language Centre. Good thing there are so many of you Germans coming, I'll have someone to talk German with (and to correct my German essays maybe  )

I'm so glad I don't have any exams to be worrying about :p: I think I'll be the grandmum of the course, I'll turn 20 before uni starts. I just kept one (1) gap year and I'm already almost classified as a mature student
Hehe yipee! I thought i'd miss my granny when I'm at UCL-now YOU can bake me cookies!

I was interested in starting a new language too, either Russian, Spanish or Italian, but for me the Social/Political Science is also reaally important so i think too that I'll just use the language centre, like you said in the ESPS thread.

I envy you pentalinguist, even if i count Greek (and that's fragmentary to say the least!) i'm only up to four....oh well....

Here's another future ESPSist!

I was having a horrible morning, I've got a hang-over and my parents are already driving me insane even though I'm only visiting home for a week and then it arrived... my offer letter! The admissions tutor says she'll be recommending me for the Faculty tutor and that the interviewer was impressed with my performance  The offer should be unconditional since I already did my exams a year ago, unless they make me do an English language test.

I've already called about 30 people. I'm so excited

I found a list for the first year core course: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/esps/courses/EHPPprelimreading.pdf
The list seems a bit long to me. I won't be going crazy over the reading list, but I'm keeping a gap year and honestly I miss studying so much that I'm going to read at least the ones that are marked highly recommended.

 Well done! Thanks for the reading list btw!

I'll bake you cookies if you correct my German essays, ok? I actually make quite good cookies. And recently I've been into knitting things too

It's a deal! I actually quite enjoy correcting others' work...I think it's an ego thing. And home-made/knitted socks, jumpers etc will come in very handy as I move North to London (just for comparison: its about 20 degrees here today).

I'll be wearing mini skirts and eating ice cream year round in London, I'm used to living in -30 degrees and seeing no sunlight for months

I'm already searching Amazon for the books on the reading list. I miss studying

I'm thinking of getting:
Glenn: Legal Traditions of the World - Sustainable Diversity in Law
Mény/Knapp: Government and Politics in Western Europe
Evans: In Defense of History
Hampton: Political Philosophy
West: An Introduction to Continental Philosophy

I'll get more when(/if) I've read those.
I actually doubt you'll have to read all of them, eg if i want to make Politics my social science i would mainly focus on the politics/political philosophy books....
I think I'd be quite interested in Rousseau too, or generally that whole Enlightenment Period work-it seems so fascinating...We're just touching upon it in English Literature and it seems like a time of such intense and new thinking, wow!

Lucky you though. I don't miss studying, since I get to face it every day...keeping reading lists for the summer.

And Nottingham has the highest murder rate in the country. But Nottingham students aren't getting killed on some kind of regular basis.

Crime is not a consideration.
