Bournemouth is a nice place but academically, Southampton is better (in general that is, in certain courses though Bournemouth is very strong).

Southampton

I am a little bias though

Seriously though....awesome place to be at uni

Southampton is a much better university. Seeing as they're also really near each other, I can't really think why you'd choose Bournemouth, unless they are the best for your course.

ive had unconditional offers for both, im still waiting to hear from my first choice, but if i get rejected, il have the choice of these two! just not sure which one to pick! any ideas people!?

My ex is at Bournemouth and he loves it there. He says both the uni and the place are really good. Southampton is also quite awesome, higher in the old league tables but that shouldnt influence you if you personally prefer Bournemouth.

Ive got a few friends at Southampton seeing as its one of our most local unis (well, back home on the Island). They like the uni and the nightlife is good. Although I heard halls were a bit dodgy. Plus if you go to Southampton you could adopt the best team in the world as your very own

Basically it comes down to which one you prefer. Have you visited the places?

I don't even think Bmouth is a nice place... Might be bc I've lived here all my life, but I don't think it's good; it's very boring here. I've heard that people think the nightlife is good (lord knows why) and I disagree. I'm not sure about Soton really but if it's academically that much better, then I'm sure it's got to be the better choice.

However, you personally might like it here and if you can't decide then you should really base it on a visit to each of the unis to see what they and their surroundings are really like (providing you haven't already.)

Almost everyone always hates where they come from.
Make up your own mind. Visit the places.

Southampton has a much better academic reputation, but it's ultimately up to you.

Reply 9

Cant even compare them, Southampton all the way.

I like the beach in bournemouth. What subject are you hoping to study? Academically Southampton is better but you need to visit both and make up your mind.

I think southampton is an awful place.

Bournemouth is a great place to live/be.

Their law school i s meant to be very highly thought of.

And to the post starter: having had one parent living in Bournemouth and one parent living in Southmpton for a long time, I would recommend Bournemouth as the nicer place to live. Obvioulsy it doesnt have the night life of a big city but what is there is quite varied - good pubs, good live music venues, lovely lovely beaches, an inordinate number of Chinese takeaways, the shopping is gradually improving and in the summer, huge amounts of tourists are available for you to laugh at as they roast themselves to a puce colour on aforementioned beaches. If the course at each are comparable in terms of reputation and content, I would pick Bournemouth.

That's pretty much my summer in one sentence.

Most students though don't stay at uni over the summer - they're there Sept/October-May:smile:

I'd adivse they not only stay on during the summer but get a job on the sea front to observe the sheer weight (often, very literally) of the comedy!

Yes...luckily my dad has now moved to a close-to-the beach flat soooo free parking!
