Open University Course Reviews- EVERYONE LOOK HERE!

Hi guys! :hi:

I was wondering that for those people who may wish to study OU courses and modules......... we should put down a few reviews of the courses that we are doing. I was hoping that current OU students could write a review of the course they are doing and post it here. I will post a list of them in the OP and set up a string of articles (with our reviews) and post them on the TSR Wiki!

BTW: reviews would be nice for both modules and individual courses as well as degrees too. :h:

Thanks guys. I have posted mine below:

Molecules; Medicines and Drugs SK185

Username: Agent Smirnoff.

When did you start with the OU: August 2011.

When did you start the course: August 2011/November 2011

Why did you choose this course?: I chose this course because I wanted to supplement my A Level work and impress university admissions tutors. I also have a real love for science.

What do you enjoy the most?: I enjoy playing around with the Molymod kit :teehee: I also enjoy making nice colorfull notes. I almost get a buzz from knowing that I learnt so much stuff by myself. OU Study is better than speed. (Not that I would know. :colonhash: )

What does this course entail?: It involves reading the book and. making notes. Aside from that you can play with the molecular modelling kit!

How is the study going on: I am a little behind so I havee to cram a lot of chapters in before January to complete my EMA. Otherwise it's fun! :awesome:

Do you do anything other than study independently?: Yes. Sometimes I may look at the Open University forums on TSR and also on the Open Uni website. I am yet to get hold of my tutor. (I don't know thier details. )

How does it feel?: It feels great! I love the satisfaction of learning on my own and doing well. The OU Material is fantastic!

Do you recommend this course?: Yes defo!

What do you like the most?: I love the independent study and how it complements my AS Chemistry. :awesome:

What do you dislike the most?: The End of Module Assesment seems a bit tricky. (Not hard if you read the text I suppose. )

What are you working towards: At the moment I am not working towards anything. I am probably going to pick up a few other courses alongside my A Levels. I won't have too much trouble.

"How old do I have to be to study at the OU?

The University accepts students from the age of 16 upwards. We also offer the Young Applicants in Schools and Colleges Scheme (YASS) which enables academically gifted students in years 12 and 13 in England and Wales, S6 in Scotland and years 13/14 in Northern Ireland the opportunity to study a wide range of undergraduate study alongside their school curriculum. This is offered in over 600 schools and proved extremely popular with students and teachers alike." Click

To apply go on the OU website, you can look at the modules available.

Smoosh just made an excellent post but yeah...... they accept people from the Age of 16. If you arre under 18 then you will have to apply via the YASS Scheme or ring them up to arrange it. I cannot apply for any other modules the normal way (quick and easy online form) This is as I am under 18. When my birthday comes up in April (6 Months time)..... I will be able to.

I review all the courses I do through the OU route anyway (when you look at a module page and the reviews are linked in the right bar) so I can't be bothered to do them all again, heh.

I've done M150, T175, M255, MT264, T215 and recently started TM128.

M255 and MT264 have been the most enjoyable for me. M150 and T175 were both pretty basic, M150 was much better than T175 though. T215 was okay, a lot of report writing and not that much content that really interested me, but I found it to be a relatively easy 60 points - I put more work/time/effort into MT264 mostly, which was only 30 points. TM128 is a surprisingly heavy workload for a level 1, I was hoping it'd be an easy ride but now I'm only bothered about passing and I'll be putting all my efforts into T320 and M359 which I start in February  Also realised I'm really not remotely interested in networking at all so probably won't even bother doing the Microsoft exams which were my main reason for doing this level 1 in the first place, haha. Oh well, no big loss.
