what do people wear to this occasion?

a suit doesn't seem right.

im thinking black trousers and a black jumper - am i pitching it about right?

Sounds cool... white shirt and tie underneeth though yeah ...(if your a guy- i assumed you were).smart shoes as well.

well the last on i went to i wore a pair of black trousers and black blouse! lots of people do were suits. it depends how formal it is! just wear what you will comfortable in.

A dark grey suit will convey your respect. Make sure you wear a black tie.

It depends on the person. Some people don't ask for black at their funeral because they want to be remembered happily. At the funeral I went to at the weekend I wore a black suit with a long jacket, and a pink jumper underneath. The suit was black purely because it's the only colour suit I own.

I was at a funeral recently and some of the men wore a black suit with a white shirt underneath and black tie however a black jumper and trousers would be just as appropriate.

Dark purple is also a popular colour at a funeral as it is dark and shows respect but is also not black (obviously but you know what i mean!). When i have had to got to a funeral i have worn black trousers with a dark purple jacket and then usually a lighter purple shirt so that it looks smart.Its always hard knowing what to wear - as some people want to celebrate the life of the person and some treat it as the traditional mourning service. It also depends on the person whose funeral it is and what they would have liked and wanted.

Wear something that you feel comfortable in. I don't think many people will critizie you for what you wear to a funeral...or at least they shouldn't.

Example - when my Dad died I wore a white t shirt with a black skirt. My mother wore a black suit.

Just don't turn up in a ball gown or a Mariachi band outfit.
