M1 Chapter 3 help

Take "a" as 9.8m/s^2

A book falls from a window which is 30m above the ground. Model the book as a particle and hence find the time taken to reach the ground.

so, v=0
u is what we need to find first?

s=ut + 1/2 at^2
30=ut +4.9t^2 --------1

V^2=u^2 + 2as
0=u^2 + 2*9.8*30
u^2 = -588

I am now subbing this in to equation 1

900=-588t^2+24.01t^4
588t^2- 24.01t^4 +900=0

Have i done this right?

u is 0, not v!
then use s = ut + 1/2 at^2
with s=30, u=0, a=9.8, t=t
solve for t
