PSYA1 exam question.
How do I answer it

Childcare has been influenced by findings of research into attachment since it shows that if children aren't looked after by their parents then good substitute emotional care should be provided. An example of this would be the Hodges and Tizard longitudinal study which highlighted that the children were not able to form attachments and suffered problems in later life as a result of this. Because of these findings, the government has been looking to reduce the length of the adoption process so that children do not miss their sensitive period and still have a chance of bonding with an attachment figure.

think bowlby

sensitive care- maternal deprivation- harlow- montropy- IWM

then characteristics of good quality day care ( all focus on attachment forming) -consistent-trained staff-low staff turnover

then talk about avoiding effects of privation/deprivation
-hodges and tizard
-rutter
-genie/czech twins
-robertson and robertson

for evalutating

1) daycare also influenced by the government, parents, culture
2) evaluate all above studies. should culture influence day care?
