Britain: A country between tradition and change

... that's one of the topics that are examined in the Abitur (English).
In details this means:
- education and class (e.g. private vs. state education)
- work and leisure (e.g. industrial relations, changing lifestyles and family structures, industrial manufacturing in the 19th century, social changes after World War I and new technologies)

Does anybody know where to get information for these topics from (except wikipedia)?
Can anybody recommand revision guides or other relevant books?

I think finding books for Politics was very difficult. At A Level, I found Coxall & Robbins (can't exactly remember the title) or Roberts (called something along the lines of "British Politics in Focus") which could help. The Roberts one had updates too, which was good for recent examples.
