addicted to nose spray, help!!!!

Hey!
Basically I have this problem with nose since I was a child, I started to have sinusit (hope the spelling is correct) since I was 7 and had it almost every year.
So, in September 2005 I got sinusit again and started to use nose spray and I still use it, I can stop using it, since September there was not even one day when I didnt use it..I just cant breath without ..but now I am sceared that I harmed myself with this, coz I know that u cant use it too much...however, my nose feels blocked and dry without nose droppes, but I want to stop using it, so may be anyone knows what can I use instead of nose spray? like some hearbs or I dont know what, so my nose wont feel so dry and blocked ...
thx :yy:

I think that you should see a doctor, becuase they'll probably be able to find an alternative for you, or suggest a course of action for possible withdrawal from it.

I suffer from sinusitis, and used to use a nasal spray. I was on the nasal spray for a few months, but they told me at the doctors' that it wouldn't be ideal for me to stay on it on a long term basis- as it's only meant to be a temporary treatment for acute sinusitis and prolonged usage can cause problems with hormones and possible growth stunting (!).

So your best option would be to see a doctor and ask them possibly for a different spray, with less effects when you miss a dose, or one which is suitable for the long term.

Good luck!
There was a scare with them back in the day causing damage to the blood vessels in your nose and even brain damage (!).

I know what you mean though, being unblocked is so much better.

Augh! I'm sorry!

The thing is, I was on mine for about six months and nothing AT ALL happened to me, other than my symptoms getting much better. The doctor didn't even say to me I had to stop taking it, they just said that it's not designed to be on long term, simpyl because it can be quite inconvenient for some people to remember to squirt their nose x amount of times every day. They said it was fine if I decided to get a repeat prescription.

The only reason I stopped taking it was because I am very forgetful- meaning I missed doses, and I wanted to see if it had got any better. I can say I feel a bit worse for it now, my congestion is worse again.

You have to weigh up the possible outcomes. Take it and there is a minor (and I mean seriously minor) chance of a few problems. Don't take it and you could suffer headaches, permanent stuffyness, nausea etc.

I presume that what you have is non-prescription? I doubt that it would be strong enough to do anything serious to you anyway. They wouldn't sell it to people if there was a chance of them causing themselves serious harm.

Please don't worry, I wasn't meaning to worry you back there. I'm sure a doctor will be able to prescribe you something suitable for long term use.

Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks... I know exactly what to recommend a 'friend' of mine to help clear his nose. Multi... Tell Afzal about this.
In order to wean yourself off it you will need an alternative (a bit like a nicorette patch).

Try cocaine.
I thought i'd heard it all.
You could buy one of those olbas oil sticks that people use if they have a cold? That really helps to open up your passages and things, and because its only eucalyptus oil, its unlikley to do you any harm!
