Finger goes numbish

Today while I was eating dinner my first finger on my right hand went numb. It was kind of like pins and needles but not quite. Any ideas why? It's gone now but I'm afraid it's something nerve oriented such as corpal tunnel etc. I'd like to add I play guitar for ages at a stretch (but I fret with my left hand) so I dont see why this should have happened, the other out of the ordinary thing I did was 1 hour in a rowing tank.

I would guess it's a trapped nerve. i get the same in my hip which means my thigh goes numb. and on holiday last year i kept losing the sensation in my hands and then getting pins and needles.
Also, if you happen to enjoy nitrous oxide on a regular basis then this is a well known side effect.
I do a bit of yoga to release any trapped nerves painlessly.

I would suggest you to go to the doctor, because it can get serious ( I aint saying it will, but than again, you never know)
GOOD LUCK.

If it only happened the once, wasn't painful, and didn't last too long I wouldn't overly worry about it. Was more than likely a case of you resting your arm in such a way that the nerve became temporarily impinged, causing the pins and needle sensation.

If it persists, I would definately seek medical help as it could be the early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome (entrapment of the median nerve, which supplies the thumb, index and middle fingers)

i get it as well.it's when you put your body in a wrong positions and then you could have trapped veins or nerves or both even.nothing to worry about, but if you're really worried go see the doc.

Sounds like someone's picking hand is in the wrong position!

Tendonitis etc. tends to occur in the left hand from guitar (unless you are left handed, ironically) so it shouldn't come to that. RSI like injuries are common from playing though, so just remember to rest it if it becomes painful.

I had a pretty painful episode last year in my left hand, like super-pins and needles + pain. But fortunately it settled down quite quick.

I don't think you have anything to worry about! I have raynauds disease [albeit very mildly] and when my hands are exposed to cold they change colour, go numb. It's very painful. When they go red it feels like an intense carpet burn. Acccck.

I wear gloves as often as poss and would never open a freezer without gloves etc.
