The Open University have set up a Parliamentary Petition asking the government to reconsider the fee increases for English students scheduled to take place in 2012.
I realise fee increases are set to be applied across the board, but the OU fee increases are almost 400% for most courses (only for English students). A considerable number of the OU's students are retired and/or studying for pleasure. Owing to the government's ELQ rules they would not quality for fee support under the new system of tuition fee loans for part time students.
This is set to hit the OU very hard. I am about to graduate with them and have secured two interviews for Graduate Entry Medicine. This would not have been possible under the fees system being introduced in September.
