ears hurt :(

i have had a cold since end of last weke and even nearly lost my voice on sun nite/monday/bit of tues. voice come back now and thought cold was going but have had a sore throat still and a little bit of a runny nose on and off.
my ears have started hurting like a headache, sharp pains every now and then. could this be connected to cold or something else. i sleep with ear plugs in cos halls are so damn noisy, but last night when i put one in it kinda hurt to put in, but that was in the other ear not the one thats hurting now. if ipress the other one near the ear canal its kinda sore. the other one just hurts periodically like a headache in ur ear

im going away for weekend tommorow but could go tosee a nurse in the morning if they still hurt or is it nothing to worry about? any short term 'remedies'?
i hve had trouble with my ears in the past particularly the one that is headache pain like.

I have earache too, it came on all of a sudden on wednesday afternoon... I'm going to the doctors tomorrow about it cos its bloody rubbish! I have found warming olive oil, dunking some cotton wool in it then stick that in your ear for a bit (lie on your side so it doesnt dribble all down your neck) and it definatley eases the pain! Oh and take some painkillers..

maybe you're pushing the plugs in too far? go see your nurse, she can tell you more than me. Try not putting them in so far.

Try a heat pad on it if it really hurts, but keep it dry

If it is wax then this will solve it, but the pain implies that it is Otitis Media, in which case you need to go see the doctor and get some antibiotics.
