Vegetarian BUT have to eat foods that don't cause thrush... Nothing left to eat!

I've been a vegetarian for a while, so I don't eat fish or meat, but I do eat vegetarian cheese, milk and other dairy products. Often I find myself eating quorn/meat replacement products, which makes it much easier to be a vegetarian.

Only problem is, I've been told by my doctor that I'm a naturally yeasty person (FML) and that I need to cut certain foods out of my diet if I want to stop getting thrush (again, FML.).

Cheese and Sugar are two of them........and I suppose I can live without them, (maybe once a week is fine) but the main one is mushroom - most quorn/meat replacement products are made with this!

Now basically the only things left I can eat are potatoes, fruit and vegetables, and probiotic yoghurts. HELP!

Quinoa, rice, cous cous, tofu etc?

Actually, Quorn is made from F. venenatum, which although a funghus, isn't actually mushroom.
Otherwise, there's always tofu or soy! I know that these foods aren't necessarily recommended, but a small amount wouldn't do you any harm (as you're doing with the cheese/sugar).

You still have brown rice, quinoa, soba/udon, nuts, oats, chickpeas, fruit and veg to choose from. Even if you look at a non-meat-eater's diet, it really won't be that different. You'll still be able to make lots of meals as long as they aren't mushroomy. Oh, and you can still have non-white-flour products.

i have this exact issue- i have been suffering from yeast infections off and on for 3 years now and have done what i thought was everything right- i take showers not baths, i use unscented soap, no fabric conditioner, wear cotton underwear, use a menstrual cup not pads or tampons, no scented loo paper, none latex condoms, TMI- but sliquid lube, but i still got the occasional yeast infection, then it was time to change my diet- i bought the Holland And Barrett suppliment called 'Yeast Raiders' they are a jar of 150 capsules that are high strength acidophilus and garlic- anti fungal and herbal.i then started the candida diet- cutting out wheat and sugar- wheat breaks down in the body and creates yeast and the sugar feeds the yeast. this goes for starchy foods such as pasta, bread and potatoes too sadly. prepacked meats and cheese, fruit too as the sugar contents osoff the scale :frown:i seem to be living on eggs, veg, chicken, turkey and salads, cottage cheese and probiotic plain yogurt is ok so are most herds and spices lol but I've never felt better in my life, i have been on this diet for 3 weeks now and yes i get pangs of 'i want that icecream!' but i allow myself one cheat-treat every 10 days. but keep away from quorn and mushrooms as they are just adding fungus to your system when you want all of that out- there are great books on how to do a candida cleanse- one tip- do it gradually as a yeast cold turkey gives you really bad symptoms, because as the yeast dies off it releases a toxin/gas like product that makes your symptoms WAY worse- so its like weaning yourself off sugar and yeast based foods- gradual.
Do you eat fish?

yes i only eat fresh unsmoked fish, no tuna, as fresh and tinned tuna is classed as an 'old fish' and the mercury it contains adds to yeast problems too apparently but not sure how
I was recently told I have gut Candida (from antibiotics). It has been difficult to adjust to this rather confined diet. I have put myself on Pre and Probiotics plus (top quality) Omega Fish oil. Regarding eating I suggest you look at an excellent web site. Healthline. com. The Candida Diet: Beginner's Guide and Meal Plan. It is very informative and helpful. Good Luck and stay positive!

This thread's 11 years old, I'm sure OP has found a solution by now.
