Yes, so if you've strictly opted for a single room and Passfield can't offer you one, they'll simply pass you on to another residence instead of allocating you a twin one at Passfield itself.

There are ~30 LSE undergrads in this hall in any one year. (undergrads meaning including year 1-3) I'm in this hall now and I think us LSE bunch have come to the conslusion that there are around 15~20 1st years. (this is out of a population of around 450 students btw)

I get the impression we're dominated by UCL students at this hall... (which makes sense since this hall is in their 'territory') You'd also be surprised at the number of Imperial students (more than LSE I think) considering how far IC is from here.

LSE traditionally has a quota of 30 undergrad students in this hall every year, although some say the number could fall next year.

I bet the intercollegiate halls were like gang turf warfare after the Barrel incident in December, ha ha.

Nah, its a fantastic bunch of people

Another advantage of it having so many people from other unis is that its a convinient way to pickup the cuties from other unis during breakfast/dinner time since most people go within a similar time slot. This gives you the benefit of seeing LSE girls in the day, and other uni (particularly UCL) girls in the night. Furthermore, there are more second/third/postgrad students here, so if you're interested in people your senior, there's plenty of choice lol (can't believe I just said that)

...big disadvantage though is that its not quite as easy to copy your class homework as it is in the LSE halls where somebody is bound to have had their class before yours (unless yours happens to be a monday morning class) :p:

The intercollegiate halls are more expensive though, right?
no i think they are cheaper...with meals included in the fees. All offer 40 weeks contract too. The only thing i can't stand is the halls are not fully non-smoking yet.

Eww, that's a big no-no for me. :/

And they're much further away from LSE, right?
compared to high holborn,yes.

Sanjiv, you've got an offer from Oxford, right? So is LSE your insurance then?

Nope, I didn't receive an offer from Oxford unfortunately. But i'm sure things have happened for the best.

LSE will be my firm offer if I receive one. =)

Trust me on this....you *think* you'll eat all those meals...but it'll never happen :p: Hence its actually more expensive, unless you can stand eating bad food every single day non-stop...

Yeah totally agree with this, do you really think you'll be able to wake up for breakfast at 8am everyday ??

Haha, speaking of which I've missed all the breakfasts since the term started

Catered halls are a false economy; I spend just as much (if not more) on food as people in self-catered. It's a joke.

For those currently residing in Bankside, is the noise from the construction site really audible? Does it interfere with your work and whatnot?

Oh, and is there any way we can direct all the discussions on accommodation into this thread? I think some people might be getting irritated at having to explain themselves over and over again. Errr, do you think the Mods would mine merging all the threads on accommodation into one thread and stickying it? That way there wouldn't be too many threads on accommodation and the LSE sub-forum would be cleaner.

You mean including the food in LSE halls too?wow i didn't know the condition is that bad. So i guess majority is opting for self catering residences? The problem with me is that i can't cook! And apparently eating out in London is going to be a killer if i were to do that for a year.

*ahem* Learn, you lazy bum :p:! Haha. Either that or get those ready to cook meals...I hear they're quite reasonable in price.
hopefully they are.

I don't really know about the LSE halls, but the thing about the LSE halls is that you pay for the food when you want to eat it. Hence you don't really lose out by not going. In Intercollegiate halls, the food costs are *included* in your hall fees, so if you skip them, you're still paying. For example I skipped the last 3 weeks of breakfast, at 2 pounds each, thats 42 pounds I paid for breakfast which I didn't eat in the last month alone!...Furthermore, the problem with dinner is that there isn't enough food! (and I'm a skinny asian!)

The problem is compounded by the fact that you don't get decent cooking facilities in intercollegiate dorms...this kinda forces you to go out to eat quite frequently, and believe me it isn't cheap.

Ready to cook meals aren't that reasonable (considering the quality you're getting) so like you say, time to learn how to cook up a meal!

If you can't cook it's time to learn! As an added bonus, it's mega easy to pickup girls if you can cook well. (100% truth from experience)

Ahh, I see. Maybe I'll learn to survive on crap quality food or meet someone who loves cooking - I can pitch in some money  Lol.

Hmm. Why would I want to pickup girls? :p:
