although i'm not a current student, i do speak to some online.
and most recommend dinwiddy very much. however one girl who stays in intercollegiate halls says she loves it. and the chance to meet other UoL students is invaluable.
hower intercollegiate halls are catered (and more expensive, and you don't get your own bathroom). I know that if i couldn't cook my own food i would die a sad slow death. cooking is something i really really enjoy. so i want to stay in dinwiddy.
I already have a few friends in london (at other unis and in the the professional, music and fashion sectors), so I'm not worried about my social life.
also, you're not getting ahead of your game! i think application for accommodation opens around the 1st March, on a first come first served basis

here's a link for more info

hope this helps
UoL for sure. Closer to Russel Sq. and you meet a far wider range of people. Choosing Intercollegiate (Connaught Hall) over the SOAS halls was the best decision ive made related to university.
is Connaught Hall catered?

I'm going for SOAS accomodation, because it's self-catered and because it's cheaper.

The difference between catered and self-catered is £10, at most £20 a week and you will spend a lot more on that on food etc living in self catered. Add to that the fact that you have to pay an incompetent company which has been awarded a monopoly for internet access at Dinwiddy as opposed to the free 10mbps connection you get at intercollegiate and self catered suddenly shows itself to be more expensive in the long run. Variety of people living in the halls aside the rip off nature and awful reports id read regarding the Dinwiddy internet/telephone situation was what put me off the SOAS hall.

Internet is available at Dinwiddy free of charge for a basic 256 connection which is probably enough for surfing/email/etc and you can pay to upgrade. Phone is pretty expensive but you can call rooms for free.
In the end it comes down to whether having a big kitchen and your own shower/toilet is more important to you than meals/intercollegiate halls.

mmm a tricky decision, but i think the lack of kitchen at the intercolliegate halls clinches it, i'm vegan so i kinda have to cook my own food, and then theres the bathroom! terrible eh? i've heard some people don't get accommodation even in their 1st yr, is thgis very likely? i do not wanna have to stay at home!

If SOAS is your 1st choice, almost certianly you'll get accomodation.

if you go to inter-collegiate halls would that mean that you meet less SOAS people ?
well i'd think you would meet them at lectures and tutorials, and in the union.
you'll meet more people from other unis if you go intercollegiate - which is an advantage socially i guess.

are there inter-collegiate student unions ?
ULU i think.
i've been told that intercollegiate halls r a lot like living in a block of flats and not very sociable (from a current student) is this true in other cases? if one does stay in soas halls are there any other opportunities to socialise within the uol as a whole? (since the soas sports, socs and social seems to leave a lot to be desired!)

Pretty good, since I live 15 mins away from SOAS and was offered a place, but I turned it down.

Have you applied for accomodation already?
