The way I understand it is that it's highly unlikely to get pregnant whilst on your period, but it is still possible. A woman's menstrual cycle isn't 100% regular especially during your teenage years and as a young woman. It is possible for a woman to ovulate and have a period at the same time or ovulate before the sperm die (they can last 3-7 days inside your body, waiting for an egg to fertilise) and then become pregnant.

Please don't worry yourself as the chances are very low that you are going to be pregnant. If I were in your situation I would either return to the doctor's surgery and ask to be seen by a different doctor and explain your fears. If that isn't possible then head to a sexual health/family planning clinic and they will be able to offer you advice, support and a free pregnancy test if necessary.
You're right - it is possible. To be absolutely sure, I would go and visit an alternative doctor or family planning clinic and get the morning after pill there.

The pills, as far as I am aware keeps the level of some hormones high in your blood that prevent implantation. During periods the level of those hormones are already high so it is quite unlikely.

It's totally possible. My mum always had trouble conceiving because she was basically ovulating during her period (like on the first day of it or the day before it started) so it makes it a lot HARDER to get pregnant but if your cycle is messed up like that then it's perfectly possible

sometimes u can have spontaneous ovulation so you can get pregnant, i'd go somewhere else tommorrow as it still works if you take it within 72 hours but it is less effective.
My doctor once told me that it's impossible to get pregnant on your period. I was pretty shocked, but thought maybe he meant the periods you have when you're on the pill.

I would go to a FPC or just buy one over the counter if you're worried.

Do you mean because you've just come on your period now, or because you were on your period when you had sex? If the former then it's true that it's highly unlikely you're pregnant, unless it's a very different period to normal. If the latter, then I can hardly believe he said that. That's not true, everyone knows there is a very small chance of pregnancy at that time!! Get a 2nd opinion as soon as poss if you're concerned.

thank you for your opinions. they have really helped. however, it has been longer than 72 hours now. i don't know what to do.
