UH-OH....may have been taking pill incorrectly!

Ok, so I was instructed to take the pill daily for 21 days then take a 7 day break before starting the next strip. Thing is, I just heard from someone else that you're supposed to take 3 strips then take the 7 day break, that way you don't have 2 periods. That's what I always thought, because I was under the impression that pill made you skip a period.

I was prescribed the pill to ease my periods though, so perhaps this is why i take it for 21 days THEN have the break? I'm confused.

It's always 21 days then a 7 day break to bleed. If you *want* to skip a period then you run two packs together without the break.

Follow doctors instructions, also look on leaflet that is in pill box, theres too many types of pill to just copy your friend. I would suggest you call your dr tomorrow and see if they can do a quick confirmation that what you are doing is right (or book an appt if they awkward). Are you also using it for contraception?? Cos if you are then you do need to def book proper appt; not worth getting pregnant for the sake of ten mins out of your life. Hope you figure it out.

If you take three strips together then you will not have a period for 9 weeks - you will still be protected for all that time.

HOWEVER, the normal method of taking it is to take one pack (21 pills) then have your 7 day break, which gives you a normal 28 day cycle. If your doctor has put you on them to ease your periods, it's best to start out this way.

Either way as long as you're taking them every day the contraceptive effect will be fine, so don't worry about that. I wouldn't say you need to see your GP abouth this again, just follow his/her instructions.
