They are lying. I have a mouthful of metal, never hurt once. They inject you with anaesthetic that makes you look like you have Bell's Palsy and if you are lucky put strawberry flavour anaesthetic gel on your tongue and gums too...

If you don't like drill noise then you have a problem, but I have many many fillings and have never experienced pain

The last one I had didn't so much hurt, but the drilling was very uncomfortable. He numbed me up good, which helped, but it still wasn't a pleasant experience. But that was some very deep rooted nasty stuff that needed drilling out.
You'll be fine, it's over and done with real quick. It sounds a lot worse than it is - the drill is quite noisy!

I find the worst bit the same as any dentist visit - not being able to swallow, that's so uncomfortable!

lol at the earlier posts re the anaesthetic.

They're not painful but the drilling is kind of unpleasant...I mean I can think of better ways to spend my time

I couldn't have the anaesthetic i hate needles and didn't want them anywhere near my mouth. I hate the dentist enough as it is and have a history of biting the dentist's hands. It's not so ba dhave a filling, the drilling's ok - but then there's a point where they drill through the stuff and that's not nice, i can't explain it but it sends shivers down your spine. I felt a bit ill the rest of the day from the smell of burning enamel and i had a headache but apart from that it was ok.

I've had quite a few fillings now.

If you dont like injections then you can just turn it down and do it without the drugs. I usually do and unless the hole is shockingly deep, the dentist wont mind.

IMO the injection hurts far more then the drilling, i always turn down the injection.

What type of fillings are you getting? The white ones or the mercury ones?

I had mercury fillings in my baby teeth...they didn't hurt at all, but afterwards they felt rough when you brushed them withyour tongue, almost sharp. And when you put a metal fork or bit of foil in your mouth your mouth goes tzing!!!! :p:

I now have white fillings which I prefer. Again they didn't hurt at all, it's just the noise really. My dentist has the radio on though so I concentrate on that, singing along! Just don't nod your head to the beat!

Mine was fine. I have a phobia of needles and the needle never even hurt. Make sure you close your eyes.

The worst part for me was when they get the vacuum that gets rid of the saliva. Felt like i was going to swallow it.

I've had about 5 and I agree with some people on here, the injection is the worst bit :frown: It hurts as you can feel it go in really deep, the actual filling isn't too bad, althought the drilling vibrates your whole mouth and sends shivers down you.

Good luck I'm sure it's not as bad as I make out :p:

Injection go in really deep? How big are your gums? :s:

 I meant that it feels like it takes forever to go in, or maybe its just my dentist injecting me really slowly. I'm just a wimp I guess
