Hi all,

I don't post here often at all (last post in 2010 I think) but I wanted to just make this thread as I'm sure some people will find it helpful.

I realised my foreskin was tight some time ago but I didn't do anything about it. I couldn't pull the foreskin over the head properly, although sometimes I could (but it'd be very tight). It made me lose a lot of confidence and for that reason I never had sex (for the fear of snapping the frenulum). After some looking into it I found I have frenulum breve (short frenulum) and I wanted to go to the doctors to get it sorted. I never plucked up the courage though.

Finally, I decided to go to the doctor. The doctor had a look and referred me to a urologist at the main hospital. A month or so later the urologist had a look and confirmed it was frenulum breve. He said I should have a frenuloplasty. He put me on the waiting list and I heard nothing for another month or two. I rang the hospital and they got me a operation date as there had been a cancellation.

I went to the pre assessment where a nurse goes through the information and checks you're OK to have the operation. Five days later I had the operation. I went into hospital at around 8 and I was taken to the theater at 8.45. Met the surgeon and the guys who did the anesthetic. I had it done under general anesthetic. They gave me some gas which knocked me out (so they could put this 'tap' in my arm for the anesthetic) and the next thing I knew I was coming round in the waiting area. I felt no pain, just a slight discomfort. I was kept in the hospital for around 3 or 4 more hours where they gave me some tea and toast to check I could eat. I also went toilet which was OKish (no pain, just slightly messy...)

After that I was given paracetamol and ibuprofen and discharged. That day I just rested and despite there being no pain I took some paracetamol before bed. I woke up a few times and got some erections but it wasn't painful. I saw near the top there was a black dot/line and some white stuff (not smegma). I remember the surgeon telling me he was going to burn it instead of using stitches as there's more chance of it going back to how it was with stitches. The next day was the same, just rest. Yesterday I showered (48hrs after op, as advised) and I pulled back the foreskin. There's a white line from just under the 'japseye' to part of the foreskin itself. There's also some black stuff on it, which I guess is where it was burnt. Doesn't look too pretty but I've had no pain or bleeding. I washed it and dried it as they said. Didn't smell too great. Today I showered as well and washed it a bit better with some Sanex showergel that has no smell or anything. Dried it and an hour or two later it kinda smells bad again. I guess this is from the wound... not much I can do.

So today is 3rd day after I had the operation and there has been some discomfort but no pain or blood. Glad I got it done as it was so detrimental to my confidence with girls. Need to wait ~2 weeks before I do exercise and ~4 weeks before any sexual activity. Oh lawd.

So that's that. I remember when I was looking into it I wanted to read other people's experiences and get as much info on it as I could, and I would have appreciated this post so I'm sure others will. Feel free to ask any questions. If you don't know what a frenuloplasty is then look it up (it's basically the lengething of the frenulum, aka banjo string).
I know this thread is old now, but I feel I am suffering from the same problem. I've known for a while, but cannot pluck up the courage to go to the doctors. I know this is a rather explicit question, but does the doctor have to examine you when you're erect?

Hello, it's good to see that other people have the same problems as me. I'm twenty-one and I've never had sex, I wouldn't dare for fear of something going wrong down there for a few years now I've known something wasn't right and maybe three years ago I decided I had a tight foreskin... Anyway it has got a little better since then but not very much, I can pull the foreskin back when I'm soft but when I'm hard it's tight and hurts to pull back properly [sometimes it won't go back far enough anyway] W***ing is fine at least :blushing:

After looking around the net I think that I need this operation I'm nervous about going to the doctor for anything though so I can't see myself being able to get my penis out for him... I really hope that the last posters fears are untrue and that he doesn't have to check me out with an erection. I'd probably rather just go without ever having sex than have to deal with that embarassment... [silly I know]

Anyway, not sure why I'm posting this as I've already seen all the advice given over the past posts. Cheers everyone though for talking about this it's been good to read in a way and the operation doesn't seem TOO awful so maybe...

I know this thread is old but id like to post just to calm some people down firstly, I'm 19 and for a couple years was only a bit conscious that my foreskin/frenulum was a bit tight and after googling the hell out of it diagnosed myself with frenulum breve. I have a sharp pain during sex and so decided to go to the doctors and check it out. (Side note- I NEVER go to the doctor ever and I'm quite self conscious so if you're reading this and thinking you're not the type to flop it out on a daily basis DON'T WORRY me neither!) I saw one comment on here saying that he would rather never have sex then deal with the embarrassment which is what made me sign up and reply to this cause I've felt like this before and you need to know its not necessary to feel like that. I do have a great girlfriend and a very healthy sex life and so we decided together I should check it out. SO, I put on my best pants and went to my appointment and just explained the pain and told him how it hurt ( I requested a male doctor, As anybody can at any surgery). He was very professional and really nice to chat to and I felt 0 awkwardness when he asked if I minded if he took a look. He pulled the curtain across and let me sort myself out before he came and asked me to roll back my foreskin so he could have a look (PS NO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET A HARD ON AND NO HE DOESN'T TOUCH YOU!!)! After about 3 seconds of looking he said I could pull my stuff back on and he again looked away and gave me some privacy. he explained that my self diagnosis was right, and that I could try some hydroquartersone cream which doesn't really work or book in for the op! I chose the second just to get it over with and I'm now waiting for my consultation date. I didn't have to tell anybody I was going to the doctor. Me and my dad do not have that kind of sharing relationship but I sent him a text anyway to let him know what I had and that I was having some surgery. I also texted him before I booked the appointment and he was good for advice and just generally cool about it. I'll keep this updated if it gets any replies and I'll let you all know my progress before and after the op. SO to summarise - yes you can do it privately and sort it out yourself, no it's not awkward or embracing at all, no you do not have to get hard for the doctor and yes it does help to have talked to my dad and girlfriend about it (but didn't have to) hope this calms some people down and everything, I'll keep you posted!

Just want to pipe in as well with my experience, for anyone nervous about the idea. I tore my frenulum last year during sex. Just a little rip, but I then had to wait for it to heal during which time I thought about how tight my frenulum was and looked into all kinds of topics like this, reading about frenulum breve and how to get a frenuloplasty. I decided, after discussing it with someone else I know who'd had the same problem, I would get the procedure done.

Diagnosis is pretty easy. Just go see your GP. They'll ask to see the problem, look at it for a few seconds, then say "yeah" and refer you to a hospital. They'll then look at it, and maybe ~3 months down the line you'll be able to get the surgery.

So yesterday I had my surgery. They said they did a combination of cutting and burning. I have quite loose foreskin so no problems there, and apparently I didn't even need the stitches in the end, just gauze. I was able to retract it immediately - not pulling it back, just gently rolling, which is now very easy thanks to the surgery. It'll take a while to get used to that. The frenulum is still attached but now it's towards the base of the head rather than just under the peehole. There's a line of white gauze stuff over where they made the cut, which I try not to touch directly as it's very sensitive (obviously). But very pleasantly surprised as there's no pain even after the anasthetic wore off.

I was told not to shower the day after or take baths, so I haven't washed it yet, but after peeing I've been dabbing the tip with a bit of damp TP just to try and make sure it's clean and minimise any dribbling that could irritate the wound. Being very gentle. I've gotten very slight semi-hardons when pulling it back and when I pee, which hasn't caused any discomfort yet, though obviously I am lucky and have no stitches.

Very pleased with the results as I can see parts of my penis that were borderline 'inaccessible' before due to the tightness of the frenulum. Very looking forward to trying it out when it's healed, I suspect I will get new sensation from that area. It's still a novelty having it just roll back without stopping. I also seem to pee easier now with it rolled back. Before, if I rolled it back and peed I'd get the worst case of spray-peeing everywhere, probably because the frenulum was pulling on the head. That seems to have gone.

Overall, couldn't be happier with the results. I was expecting blood and pain, but in my case none whatsoever (though I expect there might be a bit of blood when I try to take the gauze off). The only hard part will be the next month of no using it. Yes, it's going to be ... very hard.

Just a little update. I HAVE had blood and pain since ... mostly because the surgical glue has now all dissolved. Obviously necessary for the healing process ... but yeah. It's not really bleeding freely, but for example on the third day I did wake up with a couple of blood spots in my boxers (unfortunately you can't control your erections when you sleep ...), and sometimes I will accidentally shift the foreskin and I'll get a sharp twinge of pain. It can be a bit random. Seems to be healing well though. Just make sure you have some good loose comfortable clothes to wear.

It occured to me that I have a little more empathy for women's plight now ...

Guys, I think I need this operation. I've known its a problem for years just been far too scared to do anything.

I've read all your posts, wondering if there's anything else I should know about the post operation phase?

Honestly, it's all been explained in detail above. I've just been referred to the urologist myself after years of being too afraid but after the second time of having it tear during sex and the pure embarrassment it caused I decided enough was enough.

It's really nothing to be worried about and you've really no need to be scared, staff are very professional and have had to deal with far worse things I'm sure.

One thing that I found is that if you don't feel like visiting your family doctor then take yourself down to the local sexual health clinic (be sure to book an appointment though - walk in's can takes ages to be seen....) as they specialise in sexual health (obviously) and deal with this kind of thing on a day to day basis.

Obviously, you should be getting tested for STI's etc. regularly anyway if you change partners frequently but I digress.

There is nothing to fear. Even though I haven't had the op yet I take solace in the fact that I'll be asleep throughout the whole thing though.

So for people who have had this with stitches when would you advise retracting foreskin and washing underneath the foreskin or should I leave it for a few days

I've just came back from the operation at the hospital and it went fine, I was under local anaesthetic, and didn't feel a thing, the needle hurt, but that was like a wasp sting for 3 seconds, I just bit my finger lol. Had a little blob of blood in my boxers, that was after I urinated around an hour after the op, apparently that's normal. If you have a tight 'banjo' then go see your GP, they refer u, a while later you'll see the Neurologist, he'll then book u in for the op, it takes a while but I'm so glad I got it sorted. Hopefully this will relieve the annoyance of a tight foreskin, I could pull mine over the ******* but it was just uncomfortable. Don't listen to the chap that said you need an erection, because you don't...the doc that saw him must of wanted some action, lol. I'm in no real pain, just a little discomfort. I've taken a couple paracetamol, no pain whatsoever. 4 weeks without any action...God damn it! If ur undecided, just visit ur GP, they won't judge you, they gotta see old mans ballsacks for crying out loud, they'll be flattered to see a young mans lol. All the best people!

Haha I've the same concern. Well I'm 32 and have been put up with this problem for quite long now. Won't say that I've an active sex life but have been active at times and nill at others. Few times have been painful during intercourse and sometimes have been just OK (considering the amount of adrenalin flow while you're over somebody and doing it. ). Also, I was drunk few times while having sex so didn't really care for pains rather pleasure.
Although, there was once this virgin with whom I had a ****en awful experience and it pained like hell and back. And without any much lubrication, it's not an amusing experience. Infact I've been really low in confidence and fearful after that last painful experience. Though I did have sex after that, but couldn't enjoy fully and was never at my A-game. Infact a couple of times, I even didn't do that and just masturbated in my safe hands after some amount of foreplay.
Having said al that, I myself have been thinking of going to a doc and get rid of this problem forever. Coz I just can't keep living in denial and obviously can't keep delaying gratification. It's so frustrating believe me. There have been times when I could have had one night stands but just didn't dare to coz I alwz felt low in confidence to perform. (You won't believe how hard I've masturbated after those missed opportunities and kicked myself for avoiding to go to the doc for this). I was thinking of getting a circumsission done so as to bloody get rid of this al at once. One of my friend got it done and spoke so merrily about the benefits and an enhanced sexual experience after the removal of skin. I just didn't believe his words but the relaxed look on his face definitely caught my attention. So I decided to go about it (circumsission). I read a lot about it, the plus and minus around it. Still was making a decision to go about it when I realised that the only thing really which is stopping my buddy from going out there without bounds is just a small shackle at the bottom of the head of the penis. If I could get it snipped, I could keep myself the whole skin as well as my confidence. I searched on the net and found just the thing I had guessed. Have been researching about it for the last 1 day and found this post and your experiences. I think finally my prayers have been answered. I'm definitely going for the procedure now. I'm nt afraid of the embarrassments at the hospital or at the operation theatre. I know if I go to a good doctor, I don't have to worry about anything. I can just lie on the bed and let the experts play around with my buddy for whatever time they want. If they can get me and my buddy back in the game, both of us would be amazingly elated. Doesn't matter they twitch it, insert a needle, give me a Viagra or even blow it. I want my buddy to not be a caped crusader any more.
With all this, my only question to people here is - HOW ENHANCED YOUR SEXUAL EXPERIENCES HAVE BEEN AFTER THE 4 WEEK MARK?
That is the only concern. Even if you think you've had like 50% increase, would be good enough for me. Coz I'll make it a 100 with the untapped energy within.

Just had this done. How long do you need to wait before you can clean it? I had it done yesterday and rinsed it this morning. The surgeon said to clean it with sanex but the nurse said keep it dry... What's worked best?

Hey I literally just had this done yesterday and my advice to you is DO IT!i waited and died in silence for two years.. I'm now 20 but I tore my frenulum when I was 18... I had my own medical so I did everything myself and under my own consent. My parents didn't even know I had an issue down there lol. The doctor brought me in the room and cleaned and sanitized the area, injected (local anesthesia) and I personally am terrified of needles, but I grabbed my balls and went for it and I was pleasantly surprised, it didn't hurt that bad! I mean I was sweaty and clammy and freaking out but it really wasn't anything to go crazy over. I'm not gonna lie, it did hurt, and burn as the injection enters the penis, but the needle is so fine that it goes in smooth, and moments after you don't feel anything else and my surgery only lasted 45 min and I was out! Idk who you are but my IG is (OGBROTHER) add me and I can go detail with you. But JUST DO IT (Shia labouef voice)

I've just visited a urologist and they gave me the standard physical check-up as mentioned by others in this thread. The doctor said I had 3 options for frenulum breve: 1) he suggested to apply a steroid cream for 3-4 months to see if there's any improvement (he did say only 20% of patients improve from this alone), if there's no improvement then 2) he can perform a frenuloplasty (which has a ~30% of relapse) or 3) he can perform a circumcision which would fix the problem permanently.

FYI I saw another urologist before this, he's older than my current doctor, and shortly after examination he immediately recommended circumcision as the only option. I thought that seemed quite extreme so I looked for a second opinion. Just a tip for others, try getting an honest doctor you can trust and actually give you all the information before going into surgery.

I've been prescribed the steroid cream for now, but I'm thinking it's likely that i'll need surgery. I'm kinda favouring the frenuloplasty at this point as I'd like to keep as much of my foreskin as possible, just personal preference I guess. I need to leave for uni abroad soon so the surgery will most likely be over christmas break. He said the surgery should only take 20 mins, with 4-5 injections of local anesthesia which I'm quite worried about. He also said he'll be using a scalpel instead of laser, and will require stitches.

Just a question for those who's done it with local anesthesia, as this is going to be my first surgery, I'm freaking out at the fact that i'll be awake during the operation, what was your experience with it? Also, if anyone has more info on their experience 4 weeks post-op I'd like to hear that too

Never be embarrassed like i was its hard not too be, but doctors just want to help and once referred the urologist has probably seen over a hundred tight frenulum's before. I unfortunately never realised it was too tight and snapped my frenulum during intetcourse and it bled a lot everytime i showered i had to be careful because even the water pressure opened the wound back up and i was bleeding everywhere i then tried to not have sex for a month and as soon as i had intetcourse it would snap again its not nice and is messy and ruined my sex life for a good 3 months until i was brave enough to see a doctor my pre op was done in 10 mins and I've got to go theater a week from now.

Hi,I had this same procedure yesterday with Local Anaesthetic (my first time) and it honestly wasn't as bad as I initially thought it would be.As said in one of the comments before the injection does feel like a wasp sting for only 3 seconds, but I just closed my eyes and held my hands together under the gown tightly and just imagined being somewhere else (as advised by staff)Day 1 of recovery and no pain at the moment, really happy I went through with this procedure as sex has been uncomfortable for a couple years now so just hoping this has worked and I can return to a happy sex life!If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I will answer them!

How does sex feel after having this procedure? How does the skin sit? Is the skin loose? Does the skin roll back and forth on its own? Can someone please share their experience.
