What is this?

Hi,

Before i start I am planning to go to the doctors about this, but our surgery telephone's constantly engaged. Does anyone know what possible illnesses have these symptoms? I thought it sounded like mumps but i've had the MMR jab and my sister has similar symptoms.

Stiff neck - it's sore as well.
Aching and tired muscles
Painful eyelids and scalp (i can't tie my hair up or touch my head because it hurts so much)
Numb skin all over body (i can feel things but it's very desensitised)
Disorientation
Sometimes having a loss of appetite
Sweating in the night
Excessive shivering even when it's really hot
Sore throat and ears (hurts when swallowing)
Painful headache and occasional feeling sick.

I haven't been sick and although they are very painful, my glands aren't swollen. I've had this since friday and it fluctuates between being really bad and ok. Erm i can't think of anything else to tell you but any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks,

Crispy

xx

I have just been very ill with the flu, and had all of those symptomns, plus a total loss of voice, which persists even now. That was due to my having laryngitis as well. You probably have flu and should ask the doctor how best to treat your strain.

If its viral you will need to take ibuprofen to reduce swelling in throat and then throat pastilles/lozenges to help you feel more comfortable while recovering.

Sounds like very bad 'flu. It's going around, about half my year have been off recently with it and I've had all those symptoms in the past couple of weeks- getting over it now. Not surprising your sister has it as well.

Lol thanks, i did consider that it could be that. I haven't been coughing or sneezing or anything like that though xx

Yep, there's an outbreak of Influenza B in the UK at the moment- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/02/03/usick.xml&sSheet=/portal/2006/02/03/ixportaltop.html

Drink lots, stay in bed and even if you really don't feel like it, try eating something like fruit or dry crackers to keep your energy up. It shouldn't last too long, but just look after yourself and it should be over quicker.

Get better soon!

I think you should get seen ASAP. It could be flu, or it could be something worse.

Is there a stomach-type virus going around too? My friend had something like that for a few days and thought it might be food poisoning (except she couldn't think what she'd eaten that could have caused it) but now her boyfriend has the same thing.
So many bugs going round, ugghh. Hope everyone gets better soon.
