This might seems like a great thread, I've been stalking it for a bit as I've started teaching myself to DJ. Are some of you guys DJs/producers?
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me on software/how they got started etc
Technically I started on Fruity loops about 5 years ago. But within like a month I fell out with that software. Moved onto Ableton after that and never looked back. FL is very good for most beginners though, and hell it can be used right up to mainstream levels. In terms of learning the basics of EDM, get this book:
Great guide on the basics. Will get you started in no time, and pretty fun to experiment with the ideas they give you. Can either buy it there or...find somewhere to acquire it for free...
Absolutely loving Soul Clap lately. Really would recommend you check out some of their mixes. They know their house and its history back to front. I don't, so it's nice to hear such a fantastic range of styles in their mixes.
Was released last year but really liking nicolas jaars album space is only noise.
I can see the appeal in that album. Like Pantha Du Prince meets FlyLo. Futuristic lounge feel to it. Only caught a few tracks and quite liked them, really need to get around to listening to the whole thing.
Wow what a track, cheers for this gonna have to check more this album. Love this kinda track, great like build up and beats, can't stop nodding me head to it, and i just love that kinda of driving energy that it brings where the climax (excuse the pun) just continues, sorry my descriptions are terrible ha.
The album (Impermanence) is amazing. Sleek, sexy house all the way.
This is perhaps one of my favorite tracks from the past few years. Unbelievable how this gets people moving
I guess we can ask a mod to rename this thread now? Assuming Favorite can't do it himself.

Do you mean like it's not got enough stuff? Because you can add fruities to it, I downloaded loads of add on and stuff for it. I the the FL poizone channel is actually really good considering it's sopposed to be one of the more basic producing softwares. Afro jack uses it and I think there is a vid on youtube of him explaining how he uses it to make house beats. Also kissy sell out has a few vids on youtube you could have a look at.

Thanks I will definitely check out the book! I've used FL before when I was back in music school and I used to use Garage Band quite a bit as well. I guess I will need to find something to pacify my electronic stuff as well as my band/live stuff.
I have played around with some online software plus Audacity and come up with some stuff - have a listen/comment if you wish
