depressed, what to do

my cusin is really depressed at uni, she hasnt been able to make many friends and is behind on work etc. I cant seem to help her, its more than a temporary mood that can be cured with a night out or sth like that.
I heard that anti-depressants are bad for health, are the side effects outweighed by the benefits? she really dusn't wanna go for counselling, shes quite independent etc and dusnt feel that chatting to a stranger will help. Does ne1 have advice, thx alot

Anti depressants are good in the short run, but in the long run people start depending on them, get addicted to them. Anti depressants dont deal with the route of the stressor, just the symptoms, i think the best thing is a change of lifestyle.

:ditto: If your cousin is that depressed then she will see that it is her lifestyle that needs changing in order to solve the problem. Anti depressents just mask the problem generally.
Try and make her go and see her doctor/ a counsellor. They are professionals and are trained to deal with these sorts of things. It can be surprising how much just talking to someone can help anyway.
If she is falling behind on her uni work too, try and get her to tell her personal tutor that something is up so she can get a bit of leeway.
Hope it all goes well.

For some people it can if they end up becoming addicted to them, or if they have bad side effects.
But its not always the case its like any medication, i think counselling would probablly be her best option.
I understand thats hard for her but you got to convince her to put her health before her pride.
Or perhaps remind her she can talk to you 2 but im sure you done that already
Pray...Its supposed to help with stress and clears your mind. Just make sure no one commits suicide

I'm pretty sure everyone gets depressed at uni - just in different ways - for instance I know someone who is in serious financial dept - they have £17 to last them until the end of April. Oh Dear!

Other people don't seem to get on with their flat mates, but thats just life.

Nobody should let the people who are enjoying life make them jealous, it's just the way it is sometimes. I'm sure in everyone's case sombody's making someone else jealous! I know thats the case for me and other's.

Don't let anything get you down1

If your depressed now, then you'll be enjoying life so much more in years to come!
