not much generally. my vet told me we'd be lucky to get more than 60 grand a year at the top of our game.

I don't think we'll get more than £20 000 a year out of university. We usually get cars and lodgings though.

A vet i did work experience with probably earned more than that, i think anyway, judging by his lifestlye lol
If i can live like him in the future i'll be happy :p: still im not in it for the money

ooooh just remembered reading that vets salrie srange from 20k for newly qulaified vet to 80k for a vet who own s a successfull practice:smile:

According to something on the wall of a practice I was at, the average salary (in England, Scotland and Wales) for a grad the 1st yr out of university is £24,000. That will probably be less though if you get the house and car.

I think it varies greatly depending on what area you go into and how good you are at the job.
The BVA states the median starting salary to be around £20k, but I know of a new graduate who earned £42k in her first year
Once you would have your own practice, or at least partnership in a practice, you should have a pretty good quality of life.
But I definitely wouldn't go into Veterinary for the money, there are allot of easier and less stressful jobs which pay much better.
Hawk what you have just said about £42k is utter tosh. Grow up.

up north the going rate for a new grad is £18k + house + car.

YAY!
i heard about one thats just stated on 50k and got the car aswell, down south
Then the person who told you was a liar, and you were obviously very gullible to believe them.
No offence intended but that is utter s**t.

So are you claiming to know the salary of every vet in the country?
For all you know that person could have grew up in a veterinary background and walked straight into a practice partnership from parents/relatives?
Yes I'm sure there aren't many of us that are gonna strat on £50k but to claim that someone is a liar because of it is just absurd.

I've been in this forum for 10 minutes and every post from Stuart has been unhelpful, nasty and just pointless. Why do you bother posting at all?

I was reading the Veterinary Times at work and loking at the job ads to see if I could help answer this question.

Although there were loads of jobs for vets advertised, there were only 3 that stated salaries. One was for an experienced vet with orthopaedic surgical skills and that was £60k. The other 2 were for vets with a couple of years experience and they were both in the £35 - £40k range.
