Asda job Application

I recently applied at asda and a few days later they replied and said that they were impressed by my application form but have no vacancies and will keep my app on file and should a vacancy come out they will contact me.

does anyone have any views on this? what do u think?

Trust them...if they say they'll keep you in mind they will. It will save them a lot of hassle if they call you who they know will be good, instead of having to go through the whole process with someone new.

Be warned Asda do group interviews and make you do the theme tune, it is truly terrible.

 I'm looking to get a job there when I leave school (as a Summer job to earn a bit of extra cash, not as a permament job before some smart arse makes a comment about it). But what else can you do except take their word for it and if a place comes up they will let you know. Best of luck.

Do you just go in and ask for an application form?

Would they hand you one out if there wasn't a vacancy available? I know a few people who work in the Asda by me, and there is nearly ALWAYS something available all over the store.
Where I live you can only get application forms from the Job Centre. So they just hand them out willy nilly to whoever asks, I doubt they check if there is actually anything available.

You thought I was joking didn't you? I'm being serious, I went when they were opening a new one in Crawley. They really make you do that, ask anyone who has been to one they will tell you the same. I don't know how they can assess anyone with a group interview, it's so lazy.

I work in Asda part-time and the interview was the best one I've had to do. Because it was group based the pressure wasn't so focused on you. We had to split into groups and perform a magic trick for the group haha. But Asda is good to work for, the pay is £5.44 p/h and the people are really nice.

When I applied to asda I didn't get the job at first, I had an interview etc but didn't get it. They kept my record on their file as promised for 6 months and about a year ago I got a phone call offering me a job! I went in for another interview and found out I was going to be working on the checkouts, they noramlly don't give jobs to under 18's on the c/outs so I was really chuffed they'd considered me when I was only 16. The lady who interviewed was surprised I didn't get the job at first but I took it and now i've been working there for over a year now. Its an okayish job I don't do much apart from scanning stuff . The department is really good with giving holidays for study leave etc and they understand if you need to change you're contract I did and I only work once a week. Good money and everyones really nice. They'll keep you on record and WILL contact you if they have an opening. Good luck!

Why do you need to be a magician to work in a shopping place? :p: I keep thinking of whether or not I should get an application form...I'll have to practice my magic and juggling first though!

Asda are quite a pain for students. You have to go to a week long training thing (every morning) which can be a problem if you have classes.
magic tricks lol

maybe there just trying to get rid of the ones that perform tricks with money
Hey

I work in ASDA and have done for about 2 years. Aswell as doing my normal job i also faciliate the ASDA magic sessions. ASDA Magic is simply a way for ASDA to 'weed out' unsuitable candidates. Its really easy to 'cheat' on the application form so this saves time when you have 100's of applicants for a smaller number of jobs.

Magic is a laid back and fun interview. Its supposed to try and see who can work well with people and who is too bossy. It also shows how interested potential employees are in doing the job.

If you want any tips about passing magic send me a message

D
It depends on whereabouts you are. I certainly didnt have to do a magic trick! I also didnt have to go in every morning for a week for training or whatever, so it varies quite a lot. I was in the same situation, they said they'd call me if something came up, they didn't, but then again I was calling them once a month to see if anything had come up yet, and i got the job.
i didnt have to do the asda theme tune lol!!! my mate had to do the patting the bum thing but that was like 3 year ago.
i did a ''tell me something about the person next to you
then sell this product to your target audience cant remember what else.
no magic or anything lol

I have applyed for a job at asda if they offer me an interview what should i expect in a group interview?
Iv been told the Tell everyone about the person next too you they still do that! So do you get to know them first?
What else do they do?
thanks
I had an interview with Asda on Tuesday

Anyway i had a group interview - which was to find out things about the person next to you n then feed back to the group. We had a store tour which I was bored with as I go in there all the time. Anyway we came back to the interview room - where were introduced to another actvity - which consisted of a team building exercise - building a house from a deck of playing cards. I enjoyed it as it got me talking to others in my group and etc.
Filled out a few forms of what department i'd like to work in and what hours I could do.

I then had a phone call today to say I was successful and that I now have an individual interview.

EDIT: WOOHOO - I have a job after a year of looking!! Bloody typical though, week before I start Uni :frown: but oh well, im happy :biggrin::biggrin:
you dont have the job yet hun  the individual interview is very important. my advise is listern to the question and dont be afriad to say something like i cant think i can answer that question if you cant. its about honesty and showing you can adapt to situations.
they ask you things like have u ever not got on with another collegue , how did this affect u etc.
situation where u have gone beyond your dutie
name a time when you really didnt want to go to work , why did you go in the end.

if you need any more help with asda related issues/questions about the job pm me
*edit* just realised you edited ya post days after you orginally posted so i take it you had your interview...sorry!! and congratulations. what department are you on? x
^^Yea I found the interview very informal, really relaxed. He just asked me about previous jobs as most of them I have had are heavily customer service based - so he didnt see any problem with that. Done a little taster as well, seemed really cool. Hopefully start next Sunday. I shall be a checkout girlie - WHOOP WHOOP  Also been offered the opportunity to go onto other departments once I know what im doing and etc - didnt know if it was a lil ploy to get me to stay and be really interested and motivated to get well into the company.

Im just soo happy to finally have a job just abit gutted it wasnt last September. But oh well
