After removing braces

Not sure whether this is the right forum to post this thread on but here it goes.

I have train-track braces which i have had for just over a year now. They are hopefully due to come off in about 2 months time. However, even though i can't wait to get the bloody things off, i'm concerned that when they are removed, i'm going to have white squares on my teeth. I have had trouble cleaning my teeth with these braces on cause i have lots of hooks to do with the elastic bands, and these hooks get in the way of the toothbrush and therefore make certain teeth more difficult to clean (even though my dentist says my teeth are looking clean :hmmm: ) If i do end up with white sqaures on my teeth due to the build up of plaque, what the hell should i do? What would my orthodontist do? X

I was really worried about this, and in all honesty I'm not too sure there's much you can do. I would try not to worry about this however I know I was paranoid about brushing my teeth to make sure I wouldn't have any marks....and I have bits of 'cement' still stuck to my teeth that won't come off..but friends who smoke drink lots of coffee you know all the 'bad stuff' came out with teeth whiter than mine! As long as you brush your teeth after eating, don't intake too much coloured food in the coffee tea sense then i'm sure you'll be fine. You could always start using things like pearl drops but im not convinced they work so well. I'd ask your orthodonist next time you see him tho to give you a professional bit of advice!! Good luck!!
It's just like toothpaste and you use it after normal toothpaste, I used to get it from boots or sainsbury's. There are other versions too some are quite expensive like £8 a bottle some are cheaper. Or you could always just wait until your braces come off and see what it's like....if it's bad or you just feel self conscious about it maybe try a home whitening kit? If it's bad I wonder if your dentist would do it on the NHS or a reduced price....but I'm just thinking out loud here!!
I am pretty sure you'll be fine, as everyone panics just before they come off but you'll feel so much better without all that stuff in your mouth - oh the amount of times I got food stuck and look just too fit for words!! Sadly my orthadontist was **** and my teeth are not as straight as they should be and it's lead to other problems ...I'm just one of those people tho!!
I'd just look forward to the summer without braces....think of all the boys...that's what I did hehe you'll be fine sweetie i'm sure!!

You don't get white squares! If your dentist says your teeth are clean...then they're clean. When you get your braces off, they clean them for you to get rid of the glue stuck on your teeth (even though sometimes it doesn't all come off). I had some glue stuck on mine and my dentist got it off for me, it's no big deal they just...sort of buff the, if that makes sense. but don't worry, you won't have squares!

Don't worry, your teeth will be normal. Even if they aren't, after a few days of normal brushing, they will be. The thing you've got to worry about is the retainers. Boy, did those things piss me off!
Its been about 4 or 5 years since I had braces, but from what I can remember, after they remove them, they do give your teeth a really good clean to make sure they have no cement or white squares on them! Don't worry, even if you do, people won't notice anything apart from you'r perfectly straight teeth
I thought I would have funny marks on my teeth and I didn't.I think the only way you would is if your dental hygiene is incredibly lacking.

I do have some slight dints where the braces were on a couple of teeth but you can barely tell.

It's true, retainers are SOO annoying. And I have to have them for the REST OF MY LIFE. I was like, so what was the point of the braces then?!! I was not told this before!! lol  But they could be worse I spose. And I do like my teeth

Yeah I was worried about having patches on my teeth, but honestly I doubt there'll be anything there. Just make sure they get all the glue off, cos I still have some and its bloody annoying!

How exactly do they remove the brace?
Does it hurt?
How long does it take them to clean your teeth? Are you teeth noticeably cleaner then before?

Sorry for the 20 questions hun

It doesn't really hurt but you can feel them tugging them off - they kinda grab the squares with tweezer things. Is such a relief when they're off tho - your teeth feel MASSIVE! lol :yy:

Yeah I wouldn't smile for about a week because my teeth felt so huge...I was seriously self conscious!
I had braces for 4 years.....even if it did hurt I doubt you'd mind because it's such a relief!

um why the hell would you need a retainer for the rest of your life. Your bones stop growing more or less in your early twenties so surely you dont need one after that.

I had train tracks on for 2 - 3 years (can't remember how long) and had a couple of teeth that were a real problem to clean due to my gumline and the shape and position on the blocks.

However, I had them off about 3 weeks ago  and no white squares (or brown squares either ) on my teeth

As everyone's said, you probably won't have white squares but they do clean them once they take the metal bits off anyway.

Also, I wouldn't waste money on "whitening" toothpaste because they either work by doing bad bad things to your teeth or simply by making your gums look pinker (so your teeth look whiter in relation).
i had by braces removed about 3 and a half years ago, they buff ur teeth to get rid of the cement but cant always get rid of it all as in my case where i still have some on my front teeth. Luckily you can only feel it there because its not an even surface but not see it so it doesnt really cause a problem
I had mine on for about 2 years, and had very little problems with white marks, all I did was use whitening toothpaste (just the normal stuff you get from Tesco or Sainsburys) and they cleared up after about a month
I had the glue left on my teeth which my orthodontist didn't get off. When I went back for my check-up he still didn't take it off, so I went to my normal dentist and they got the drill with a little sander type thing on to smooth them down. That also whitens your teeth, and they didn't charge which was good!!!

So don't worry, because even if you are left with bits on your teeth, they WILL get it off!!!!

:ditto:
and superalex - the bones in your mouth might not 'accept' the new arrangement of you teeth, so they keep slipping back... cant remember what exactly my orthodontist said..but that was the gist of it
There was some left on my teeth as well... I didnt notice until we got home and forgot when it came to my next appointment with dentist or othodontist and its gone now..I mustve brushed it off over the years...(is it really that long ago  )

You have to have retainers for the rest of your life? That's horrible :frown: , poor you! I'm sick of mine after like two weeks.

Seroously, you won't have any marks on your teeth (or at least you won't if you have an orthodontist like mine who polishes your teeth till they shine). Not having train tracks is amazing - you'll probably be too happy about your metal-free mouth to notice whether you have tiny marks or glue (easily got rid of) left behind.
