I'm playing 10-2 at the moment and I will finish it!!!
I like the battle system, it's a change from the usual stuff, a bit better than in Ff 10 you had a bar telling you when each player is going to have their go....but theres no FF sole to it if you know what I mean but as previously stated...it will be finished!!! I've got very close to the end but now the boredom is really starting to kick in.
Only buy it if you are a very and I mean a very big FF10 fan freak and you need to know what happens.

The 10-2 battle system is similar to the VIII battle system. I quite liked it for that reason. Shame about the rest of the game  .

The Dress Sphere system got a bit annoying after a while.

Someday when I have a lot of time I may bother completing it to find out about that guy.....someday

Although the materia system was very good, it did lead to a rather unvaried character system. While each character had their own limit breaks and personalities, there wasn't really anything else to seperate them.

I disagree - that only happens when you max out their stats (at least in FF7). For example, Aeris\Cait Sith are good with magic but physically weak, Barret is the opposite, and Cloud is good with both.

:ditto:

The problem of characters becoming too similar (in terms of stats) was one that affected X badly, not VII.
With X it was relatively easy to max out characters stats and make them indistinguishable from one another. With VII, although the same was possible to achieve, it was much more difficult to do so and so you tended to get some characters who specialised in physical atacks, some in magic, some were quick, etc.

True I suppose.

I think it is very difficult to come up with a a leveling system where each character remains very different but at the same time you are not left with an impossibily complex system.

Something x-2 and 5 had in common was that there was really no difference in the characters at all in terms of abilities and leveling up (with the exception of the special dress spheres that were unique to each character). I actually quite enjoyed playing 5 as it meant that each character could be tailored to a given situation, so if you needed several mages in your part, you would just change the class of your characters.

Square and/or Sakaguchi fully intended their NES Final Fantasy to be their last ever game in 1987, as they were on the verge of bankruptcy / retirement. They were wrong.

oh really?

True it did affect X to a degree but only with the characters that were fairly similar in the first place...take Yuna and Lulu for example. they were both mages and so they were easy to become the same. But Auron and Lulu that would just take too long to travel round the sphere grid and max out.
Each character does retain some individuality because they are given the stats to specialise in that ocuppation in the first place.
The sphere grid was too big to allow lots of people to be the same...it was invented so that each character was allowed their individuality. You could only have similar characters if you really wanted to. For example the second time I played it round I wanted una to learn Black magic aswell as she was really strong with magic but it took me a long time to do so.

FF7 is moderately complex, theres certainly a lot of stats to take into account (some of which are affected by materia).

Not really a fan of handhelds so I probably wont be playing any of the first 6 games. I'll look into the later ones (like X-2) and see for myself how it plays out.

Ok so uh what is it? If you dont mind telling that is!

I've just finished X2 - the answers in the spoiler (just so that anyone wanting to finish the game doesn't kill me)

Spoiler

I wouldn't bother buying it, as everyone's said, it's a really lukewarm sequel to FFX.

Also, I've just watched the trailer for XII - is it just me or are the two main characters a little too similar to be in love? Just that that's how FF plots usually pan out: poor boy + rich girl = fall in love and save the world. I reckon they might turn out as brother and sister or something... any inside info anyone?

As opposed to poor girl + rich boy in FF7 (kinda)...:p:

I played 5 on an emulator ages ago, but I was still really impressed with it.
What about FF1 + 2. Got the "dawn of souls" pack for GBA the other day, liking them quite a lot so far  Anyone played them?

I played the remake before that remake of both (PS1 "FF Origins", itself a port of the Wonderswan Colour remake). For a single sitting before shelving both. Failed to see the charm of either.
I've played 6,7,8,9 and 10.The only one i haven't completed is 6! I've found it really hard to get past ultimate weapon, its definately the hardest FF game i've played, still good though if a bit frustrating!

Has anyone read the story's they have made which are based around ff7? One is called 'The Maiden Who Travels the Plannet' told from the perspective of Aerith after her death at the hands of Sephiroth. I haven't read it yet but its sounds interesting.

I didn't really manage to get into VI. Was it any good? I suppose I should have given it more of a chance, but I didn't give it much time....
