Hey, im currently in my first year at Cardiff, and im in Gordon Hall which is really central to everything.
I PUT GORDON HALL AS MY FIRST CHOICE!! I was just wondering, how far is it from the main campus because I will be studying in the optometry and visula science building and was wondering how long do you think the walk will be? Also is there a mixture of people doing different courses? Thanks!
If you know how to cook with cheap materials then I doubt the evening meal would be worth it. It would be worth it if you know you would eat take-aways every night though.
Uni hall is a matter of opinion I think. Personally, I live in Talybont and love it. Its walkable to pretty much everything and I like the surroundings (Bute Park atm is gorgeous in the sunshine!!) However, having spoken to some people at Uni Hall, I hear it has an amazing community feel. Everyone who ends up there loves it anyway! Has car parking too, and there is a bus which runs back and forth to the uni every morning, though apparantly this is often full. I think its about a 40 min walk to the Park Place campus, which is perhaps double that from Talybont. I also have it on good authority that it is much quieter there, as her boyfriend lives there, and they prefer to sleep there as opposed to here. That may have something to do with the fact we both back onto train lines, even though I have sort of grown attached to my train noises now! I think it has its plus points and negatives, but remember if you do end up there, its not the end of the world!! Its for like 8/9 months, and thats it. To be honest, its not the place that makes your time at uni anyway, its the people, so be more worried about that!!
My boyfriend's in the Stoke Bishop halls at Bristol which are about two miles from the university (the same as Uni Hall I think?) and it's not really been too much of an inconvenience to him, and they have to pay for transport if they're too lazy too walk According to him, the only time it's frustrating is not really being able to do things like pop to the university gym, which you'd be able to do if you lived closer, and he never really goes in the union because the town clubs and bars are much closer. I know it's a completely different town, but from this I wouldn't have thought the distance thing would be too problematic. Plus all that walking shakes off the extra alcohol poundage
