Police Officer shot in Lenton Boulevard

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/4711268.stm

Flaming heck    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just terrible, I thought all the shootings in Nottingham happened in St. Ann's, Hyson Green and The Meadows not in Lenton - the main student area of Nottingham

I live a few literally about 30 seconds from where it happened.   and what's more worrying is that it's the 2nd shooting in only a few weeks in Lenton cos there was one at the Showcase Cinema in Redfield Way - 5 minutes from University Park.

It makes me think that I could be next.

Well, you know it's pretty serious when it's the main news article on the bbc news website...

I do vaguely remember the bus driver saying on the way back from oceana that he couldn't get to jubilee or something because of the police. Didn't realise it was this bad.

I know. I live there too, road's blocked off. Dude, this is crazy. I WORK at the showcase and LIVE there. Gun crime follows me wherever I go :frown:
ah, too close to home really! poor women, hope she makes a speedy recovery. It seems to be following me around though too as the day i went home before christmas was the day the woman police officer was shot and killed in bradford (near my home town).

Grrr sometimes i hate the world we live in!
Whereabouts on Lenton Boulevard was it? I used to live on Henry Road, to think my parents were worried about me travelling round Colombia...

*feels smug about living in Beeston*

Seriously though, this one is a little bit scary. xx
you want to hope a black person didnt do it or the BNP will have a field day!
unfortunately this happens, so i guess we've got to be realistic about it. i'm living in lenton next year so i guess have to hope that the same thing won't happen to us.

Where some people get the idea that Lenton is safe area from i dont know, most people in nottingham see it as quite a rough area normally.

Grrrr. I couldn't get to uni. They wouldn't let me walk there. They wanted me to walk all the way along to Hartley road, then up along Alfreton, then into the city center and take the 12 down... that would've taken me like two hours.

However, police say the number of shootings fell by 74% in 2005.

lets cling to hope it continues to decline.

I'm even more scared now. Apprantly, the house the the guy was attempting to burgle was a student house.  It could have been my house.

Oh my goodness, my mum just phoned me to see if I was OK, she was really worried.

Apprantly, the guy broke into the house whilst the occpants were in the house.

Here's part of an article about the incident:

Alex Wyatt, 21, a third year student, lives in the house where WPc Bown was shot.

He said today that one of his housemates, Jody Ottery, was in when an intruder broke through the door and attempted to ransack the property.

"I was out, but my housemate Jody was in on his own. I understood he was on the first floor in his bedroom when he heard a window smash and someone force their way through the front door.

"He came downstairs and saw this guy who just ran. Jody called the police. Two officers turned up and somehow a WPc was shot.

"Everybody is shaken up."

Mr Wyatt said that five male students share the terrace property in Lenton Boulevard.

"I didn't feel safe from burglaries in this place before this happened and we were always wondering when our house was going to be targeted," he said.

"But you never expect anything this serious to happen.

"Now all we are concerned about is how the policewoman is and hope she's all right."

This is just shocking I can't believe someone would have the ceek to burgle a house whilst the owner is at home. So now we're not safe even when we're in our houses minding our own business. Like somone said, I thought Lenton was one of the relatively safe areas in Nottingham. It looks like I thought wrong. :frown:

People say Radford is one of the most dangerous, and Lenton borders on Radford, so...

I think I'd rather be shot than live in Sutton Bonington.

You know it's serious when it's the main news story on the BBC Six O' Clock News (which is the most watched News bulletin in Britain).

I'm not so bothered about the fact that there was a shooting in Lenton, i'm more bothered that an attempted robbery was taking place with a weapon. We all know burglaries happen in Lenton, but it's more worrying that this was happening with someone in the house and that the guy had a gun whilst doing it. xx
